Minor - Room fan not working, noisy when water draining from bathroom above (pipes not boxed-in to soften the noise.)

Great welcome from Tilly, clear explanations of all the important bits including breakfast (unfortunately too late for me) Great bar It’s history.

N/A, all was good during my stay.

Very friendly and helpful staff, cracking town centre location in a very old building full of quirks and character. Much prefer staying in these really old buildings over modern boring hotels.

The website states that the restaurant is open on Wednesdays and all the signage around the property including in the courtyard supports this. However on arriving I found that it was not which was a little disappointing. The decoration in the bedroom was very tired and dated to a point where the plaster on the walls was cracked and broken. The shower in the bathroom was tricky to get the temperature right on but not impossible. The room lights can only be turned on and off at the main switch by the door but there are two bedside table top lights, you just need to remember to turn them on before turning off the main lights.

The building is really historical and looks incredible. I stayed in a four poster suite which was very clean and tidy. The floor slopes quite a bit which is to be expected due to the age of the building and it adds to the character and charm of the room. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a great night’s sleep.

I would prefer to be on the first floor and thereby avoid the steep staircase. However it is a 15th century coaching inn and so steep stairs are to be expected.

I have stayed here before as the location is brilliant - right in the centre of Gloucester. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable although it was tired-looking. Hotel is under new management and improvements are being made. My room was on the second floor and stairs were very steep - previously I have been on the first floor which I would prefer. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful - one took my case down the stairs for me when she saw me struggling.

The Noise. Don’t go on a karaoke night !

The manager welcomed us in the bar as we arrived he was very friendly and helpful. The room had a four poster bed and was superb. The only negative to this hotel is noise, but this was not a suprise as I had read previous reports. Bottom line is if your sleep is easily disturber take some ear plugs, I did and it was fine.

The signage to reception is a bit confusing when you arrive but a customer at the bar noticed that I wasn’t sure where to go and pointed me in the right direction.

It’s central location as I was singing at the Cathedral that weekend. The historic nature the old beams, gallery made it a special place to stay. I arrived Friday evening and there was a daughter and father singing in the courtyard which was enjoyable to sit and listen to with a drink.
