Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOld sash windows had great character but let every noise in. Smokers in the court yard from the pub kept me awake. At some point I thought I'd better close the window, only realising it was already firmly shut
Old building with character. Friendly staff. Room was good size. Breakfast was great.

United KingdomVery few parking spaces so check in early. The Hind is a listed building and sadly is in desperate need of refurbishment or at least a makeover. Many carpets are threadbare, especially on the stairs. The hand rails in the building require a deep clean especially on the stairs as they are sticky to he touch. Around the outside of the building there were cigarette ends and untidiness which created an impression of ‘not looked after’.
The staff were all courteous and helpful. The Hind was close to the wedding venue at Chester House Estate. Our room was spacious, clean and had all facilities I would expect such as a kettle, tea and coffee, and a TV. WiFi was free. The breakfast selection is excellent but on one morning, 9th September 2023, the service was painfully slow. Our cooked bacon and eggs although scrumptious took 45 minutes to arrive

United KingdomThere was no a/c in the room which was a big disadvantage as the weather was hot. Also there are no lifts in the hotel.
The hotel staff were simply excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. They organised a room for a dinner for 15 people at short notice and delivered immaculate service throughout. Very impressive personnel.

United KingdomThe bathroom shower was coming off the wall which felt quite unsafe to use! But the biggest let down was the fact that there was a club down the road that had very loud music and crowds. The closed windows didn't stop the bass and talking from bothering our sleep. Was probably a bit unlucky with the room we were given as it was closest to where it was but considering it's next to a hotel you'd think they would at least turn it down after a certain time. The club went on throughout the night.
Greeted with a very vintage hotel entrance that gave off a warm feeling. Staff were friendly and helpful assisting us. The Room was nice sized, cosy and had a big double bed with a clean bathroom. The morning breakfast was pretty standard but good for the money. Overall a good stay

NetherlandsWith very thin windows next to a very busy village centre and street, the nights were very noisy, and because of that noise, we could not ventilate the room by opening a window.
The room looks okay, including the beds. It was an old characteristic / historical room, and the hotel is located close to our route as we were passing through the UK

United KingdomUnfortunately our bedroom was by the traffic lights through the main town, several motorbikes woke me up revving pulling off from the lights through the night. This is no fault on the hotel but something to be aware of. Room was also very very hot throughout the night, a fan was provided by the hotel but unfortunately did nothing to cool the room down. Toilet also placed weirdly (to make it fit in the bathroom in fairness) but being a larger lady meant sitting on the toilet at an angle. Not something I didn't like but something I wish there was more of throughout the hotel, information about the history. For a grade 2 listed building, I would have loved to know more about the history of the building and information relating to Oliver Cromwell etc. Perhaps I missed this but being a history fanatic, this would have been amazing information to have available.
Staff very friendly, room was very clean. Fantastic location right in the town so we managed to entertain our son by shopping. Car park was secured at night which helped us relax about the car.

United KingdomI'm not old enough to remember the 1930's but my stay at the Hind reminded me of tales from that decade. No TV then or now - at least no signal for BBC 1 or 2. I was not bothered but 1930's visitors would at least have had the light programme and home service (radios 2 and 4 today). Bar menus outside made no reference that when there is a sunday carvery nothing on those menus is available.
Brilliant shower. Far better without a bath. Helpful and friendly staff, some very young and nervous. Wonderful historic building.

United KingdomWe upgraded to the suite with a bath. Lovely room, comfortable bed. Only downside was the noise all night from the night club outside and cars and bikes revving and speeding up and down the road. Had I of known prior I would of selected a room at the back of the hotel. Saying that, we still had a lovely stay. Breakfast was nice but the poached eggs need to be cooked a little longer as were very snotty when cut into.
The hotel was a lovely old historic hotel and refurbished to an excellent standard.
