Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomShower temperature kept going cold whilst showering. Not really a problem because it was only for a a second or two at a time and woke me up quicker! Floorboards really creek, which is expected for such an old building, but not great if you’re a light sleeper or your partner gets up 2-3 times in the night! You can’t reserve/pay for parking in advance which is frustrating when you book that particular hotel because it has parking. Thankfully, Harrogate have parking permits allowing you to park in designated streets near the hotel for 3 hours at a time from 9am-6pm Monday-Saturday.
Great location in the heart of Harrogate. A lot closer to the convention centre than I expected. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Harrogate and the walk to the convention centre was much easier and quicker than hotels that were advertised as being closer to it on the booking.com website. Breakfast was really good, with lots of choices. Bed was really comfortable. Our room had a lovely bath and shower.

United KingdomOur dog is well trained and not a big dog. We had to sit in a separate room to eat. Maybe a part of the breakfast room should be cordoned off for owners with good dogs. Also, we decided to eat in for the evening but because we were in a separate area, l think we were forgotten about as we waited quite a long time for dinner.
Central Hotel, great with the dog. Some 'old' people moaned about the dog being in the hotel, but then again gives them something to whine about.

United KingdomWe could only get a cozy double so way smaller than we are used to but the bed was pushed up against the wall. Once of us had to climb up and down the bed to go to the toilet. No bedside table, the window was broken so we had a draft all night. We told reception nothing was done to help for our second night. There was water damage on ceiling so it needed redecoration and made it feel grubby and a picture was hanging off the wall. This was fixed after first night. Something had been spilled down wall and you could see all mark all over where it had been wiped. The room needs redecorating.
We love the crown, it’s old elegance and it’s why we keep coming back.

United KingdomUnfortunately the bed was too hard for my liking and didn't sleep well the first night but I spoke to the lovely girl on reception and she arranged for a mattress topper to be fitted. 2nd night sleep was lovely. Hotel decor is a little dated and could do with an upgrade but it didn't spoil our stay.
We arrived for the weekend with another 2 couples for a friend's birthday, it was a smooth check-in. We had a table booked for evening meal the food was lovely. The staff were super helpful they brought out a birthday cake which had taken with and they gave a bottle of wine on the house. Nothing was a trouble. Breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice.

United KingdomCar parking: We would have preffered to park our car on The Crown Car Park for the 2 days we were there, but did manage to find a space not far away which cost £13 per day. We did not realise parking would be an issue,. Once parked, we did not use the car as we may have not been able to find a space on our return which we had paid for.. Bedroom: We just found the bed to be very firm which was not very comfortable for us and found the room quite dated. Breakfast: We were a bit dissappointed when we asked a staff member for the Brown sauce and there wasn't any. Tomato ketchup and mustard were available. We felt The Churchill suite were breakfast was served was quite dimly lit, we tried to sit by one of the lamps in order to see what we were eating.
Location was very good, we were able to drop our lugguage at reception whilst my husband went to find a car parking space. I upgraded our room prior to arrival which was very big and spacious. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning which there was a good selection to choose from.
