Location. Ideal if you had a dog. Great walks in the fields behind the hotel. 10 min walk into town. Staff are excellent. Food is good.

The smaller of the rooms we booked (Room 26) was quite dated (especially around the window frames where the paint was peeling and chipped. We also had an issue where we checked in late (as we arrived to stay after leaving a wedding locally). The hotel had been repainting some of the room doors (including that of the superior room we booked (Room 2)) so it took 10-15 mins to find the room with the night porter as there was no temporary signage put up! A piece of paper taped to the door would have been helpful.

Cleanliness of rooms was relatively good Breakfast was good

Our room was very small and cramped. Difficult to walk around end of bed. Only 1 hard wooden chair to sit on. Had to walk down 4 steps from bed to on-suite toilet & no night light. Other rooms may be better value but our room was overpriced.

Located near station, town centre & Burghley House. Plenty of available on-site parking. Quaint old building.

Room was quite warm and having the window open was not possible as overlooking road but we understood that this is a lower cost room so not a problem.

Extremely helpful staff. They were incredibly busy on the night we stayed but all the staff were helpful, efficient and charming. The buggy service to Burghley Horse Trials is brilliant.

    Room smallish

Location great and an old hotel - bit creaky as you would expect and was warm with just a fan in the height of summer, breakfast and dinner especially were great

    The young members of staff

Location excellent - as was the breakfast - dinner menu the options weren’t brilliant but the specials were fine.Staff were not well trained - in fact the younger members of staff looked very miserable as thought they didn’t want to be there! Bedroom was luxurious.

I found the bathroom hard. Mirror was positioned at 4foot, lm 6 1. I fully understand you could not put walk in the shower, but for an elderly person is hard to get into or out of the bath. Recommend a bath seat would have made a difference!

The French toast was to die for!

Bath looks nice, but if you want a shower you will inevitably get water all over the bathroom floor. No aircon in rooms and it was a hot day

Lovely setting and atmosphere to the hotel. Staff were welcoming and helpful, including getting us dinner after normal closing time and the food was excellent. Room well decorated and comfortable. Large carpark, nice gardens, 10 minutes walk into town.

Good breakfast, nice room - little small but very comfortable. Leaky shower cubicle. Lovely lounge area and outdoor space. Hotel being decorated which was fine but did detract from experience. Lots of stairs and uneven walkways as very old property - would be helpful to note this.

Room was quite creaky and arranged on different levels so care had to be taken when moving around. It’s an old building with character so not equipped with modern facilities such as power outlets. Food and drink are quite expensive.

Breakfast was very good. Location also very good. Fresh milk in the mini fridge and good quality tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch.
