Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaBit noisy as small place but nothing too unexpected for a sat night. Room small but I think reflects what was charged. Overall fine.
Good location. Receptionist very nice. Good bar downstairs. Bar staff super helpful sorting me a place for dinner. Nice atmosphere. Bonus breakfast bag was a nice gesture in the morning.

United StatesWhen it comes to the size of rooms and facilities, well, that is the way it is in a great deal of Scotland and you have to adjust. Here, it is quite compact and you want to know this going in so you don't have any disappointment. Oh, and be prepared to climb some stairs. But. as stated above, the atmosphere and "vibe" of the place makes it all workable.
The owner, John, is an exceptionally fine man with a great knowledge of Scotch. He is a great host and likes a good laugh. Also the receptionist, Emma, was warm and inviting. The accommodations were very clean and fresh.

BelgiumWe felt very welcomed at the Whisky Vaults! Charming little hotel connected to a pub, very nice atmosphere. We could order food from the Fish and Chips shop nearby and eat it at the pub, enjoying a local beer or whisky which was a plus.

FranceThe hotel does not offer luggage storage, which is not convenient for tourists touring Scotland by public transports. Given the pretty high standard of the hotel, we would have expected such facility to be offered.
The room was well decorated and very confortable.

United KingdomWe were on the second floor which we found quite a struggle with our bags up a spiral staircase. Beware there is a third floor and no lift. There is no breakfast facility. The room was expensive for the facilities on offer but this seems normal in this area of Scotland.
This is in a great location just off the Main Street in Oban. You can pull up outside to unload the car and there is some short stay parking outside (2hours between 9am and 6pm). There is a car park about 100 yards away which costs £1 per hour between 9am and 6pm. Although breakfast isn’t formally included the hotel left a breakfast ‘grab bag’ outside our room each morning. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful.

AustraliaLocation was great, staff super friendly The smoke alarm did go off at 1 am but this was caused by a 3rd party influence and not the fault of the hotel. Just wanted to make that point in case another guest blamed the hotel. It’s good to know the alarm worked.

United KingdomIt’s back street location. Its approached along a backstreet lined with large bins some of which had spilled contents. It can be approached through a basic beer garden and bar.
Friendly staff on arrival. My room was small but had everything I needed for a one night stay. Breakfast in a bag was very welcome but I still went in search of real coffee once I checked out.

United KingdomNothing!
What a gorgeous place! Quirky and cosy, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again even with it being on the slightly higher end of the price scale. Totally worth it! Even though they don't do food, they liase with a local chip shop and order your food for you, they then have it delivered and you can eat it in the bar area or beer garden if its nice out. Brilliant idea. Staff were all so friendly and Chris the barman was so knowledgeable about the whiskeys (and there are a lot!) Loved it.
