Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaA really nice cottage and it is like on the photos. The breakfast was perfect and John, the owner, has given us a lot of information where it is worth to go. I loved it to go jogging in the woodlands. Perfect place to stay if you love nature. Booking didn't want to charge us back the money for the second breakfast because we had to go to the airport very early in the morning. So John has made us a breakfast package for the way. I would book it again!

United KingdomThe only thing I would recommend is privacy glass on the front door as it’s opposite the bathroom.
We had a lovely stay here! Would definitely recommend it! John was very helpful and welcoming and the property itself was gorgeous. Brilliant location, lovely gardens and we loved the attention to detail with the water, chocolates etc. The breakfast and homemade granola was AMAZING!

United KingdomBreakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice and good quality. The house was clean and comfortable. All facilities were good and little things like sweets, snacks and milk in the fridge went the extra mile. John was an excellent and friendly host. We arrived later than we should have but he was still on hand to welcome us and show us around.

United KingdomOverall we loved the property and price is likely reflective of the high quality but found it a bit expensive. It ticked the boxes for us though as we wanted to stay somewhere nice for Christmas near to family.
Loved it’s bespoke style. Beautifully decorated with gorgeous armchairs and comfy beds! Very clean. Loved the bottle of Prosecco to mark the Christmas occasion. Definitely made it feel very special, especially as we are usually at home for Christmas, so was a very lovely touch. Location was perfect. Host was very friendly and accommodating and breakfast was lovely. Loved the dolly mixtures and jelly babies.

United KingdomIf I had to nitpick a negative, the breakfast for 4 was not as much as we would have liked. The quality was excellent, but a bit more juice and toast would be appreciated.
Nestled in the captivating countryside of Fife, the Ruin at Maspie House is a hidden gem that offers a perfect escape. The surrounding landscapes are nothing short of spectacular, with rolling hills and open fields that invite you to unwind in nature's embrace. The cottage's delightful garden is a tranquil haven, perfect for savoring moments of peace and serenity. The thoughtful host John provides a warm and informative welcome, ensuring your stay is comfortable and memorable. What sets the Ruin apart is its proximity to the historic Falkland Palace, making it an ideal base for exploring the rich history of the area. If you seek a short but unforgettable escape to the Scottish countryside, the Ruin at Maspie House is the perfect choice.

United KingdomWhat was not to like?????
Everything. The position, the facilities, the wonderful breakfast, our very pleasant and friendly host, the book about the development of the property, the artwork on the walls, and the delightful garden which we walked in but were unable to sit in due to the weather (the remains of Storm Agnes).

United KingdomThere wasn’t much to dislike! My only one negative is the bed was very hard. But accept that this is very much personal preference.
Beautiful little property, very tastefully dressed. Lots of attention to detail, including some home comforts. John even put the heating on for us, as it was a tad chilly for a July holiday!

United KingdomThe roughness of your towels was mentioned in another review. We could cope with them, but more "fluffiness" would be a help. We were with you for twoo nights and ate in the Stag and the Coveantor whers the meals were good enough for travellers. Nobody can ask for abetter choice in a rural location.
For a traditional English breakfast eater myself, the breakfasts were beyond excellent. We all enjoyed them very mush. This is the first time that we have ever stayed so close to a palace. The town of Falkland was wonderful and we should have taken more time to explore. You should advertise as a place for artists.
