The decor and fittings are a bit faded and could do with some renewals. Some staff seemed to be distracted with a lack of attention at times and several instances where they had private - and loud - conversations in the presence of guests.

Lovely bedroom. The reception management were brilliant in relocating us to a sea view. The general layout of the hotel and location are great

Computer skills of some staff not always perfect, especially when making payments by card. No criticism of hotel but maybe one should know beforehand that opposite the hotel there is a big funfair so the promised view of the sea from the dining room is not possible

Excellent breakfast, good evening meal. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely gardens and plenty of places to relax. A quiet atmosphere without loud, blaring music everywhere.

It felt like the place was being run on a shoe string or they just can’t employ enough staff - the bar wasn’t manned at times and had to keep asking reception for service. Several staff seemed to be doing several jobs. External facade could do with a tidy up. Not sure what the ‘dome’ dining experience is supposed to grant you other than a view of the car park. Evening entertainment at the low end of the budget but difficult as there was a very small audience to satisfy. Having to pay extra to use the pool is a bit cheeky.

Location to sea front and pier unfortunately the view was blotted by the travelling fun fair otherwise great location. Restaurant food and breakfast was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Due to age of building.... really squeaky flooring. The wardrobe doors stuck frequently when trying to slide. Have got used to hotels having usb ports for charging mobiles and so was surprised not to find these here. Fortunately had a plug adaptor in side pocket of case. Found plastic cups in bathroom disappointing especially when combined with luke warm water from cold tap.

Location and friendly atmosphere. Excellent cleanliness. Spacious room.

I am glad to have chosen The Palace hotel to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We were looked after, by such a hap

My slight issue was that the swimming pool and jacuzzi/ spa is not heated. So I only found that out when I got there all ready. So spent all of 10 mins and came out as I know I would have health repercussions if I continued to stay in the cold water. The room I was allocated( No.:27) was very compact and had a bathroom which had no shelves or space to keep your toiletries. My wife had her makeup and toiletries on top of her bedside cabinet and my toiletries and shaving gear …etc on the floor behind the toilet. The shower head is very old and very small and not ideal, with inadequate water pressure. The toilet seat needs attention as it did not appear to be securely fixed to the floor. The large double glazed windows could not be fully closed, which meant we could hear the sea gulls almost all night. Perhaps, a safety / maintenance check carried out regularly and reported, should help identify and iron out these issues before they turn hazardous or dangerous.

To celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary I chose The Palace hotel , a white building, which is ideally located, a mere 200 odd feet from The English Riviera’s water’s edge.. At the front of the hotel, there is a large car park which extends to the left side and all round to the rear, where there are 4 EV chargers. The lawn at the front is very well maintained and there are also areas where lovely flowers , rose bushes , all in bloom and are well looked after. There are 2 “ parking bays to the side via Steartham road, for the disabled, with more disabled bays at the front of the building. There is no parking charges for guests staying at the hotel, as long as guests register their vehicle number at the reception, where you will be given a ticket to put on your dashboard. There is a car park warden on site and cctv records unauthorised parking at this property. There are numerous rattan sofas , loungers, tables and chairs with canopies and parasols, where guests can soak up the sun and be served food and drinks, as well. The hotel is kept clean and tidy and the maids do a great job, specially in difficult circumstances, when there is no lift in the building. There is a quiet lounge , a bar and dining areas, where lunches are served. The Paris Restaurant, is mainly for breakfast and dinner. Overall I cannot praise the crew at the hotel , highly enough. I would say about 98% of the staff were friendly, welcoming, polite, helpful, cheerful and seemed happy in their job(s). Some seemed to wear “different hats for different roles”. A tiny minority seemed to avoid eye contact and hence avoid interaction. May be they lacked interpersonal skills or maybe are not good with communication skills. Following my interactions with some staff, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Rebecca, Shannon, Carolyn and Ellie.

We felt unwelcome by a few of the swimming members, it's clear they were not used to having their swim interrupted by a family with a child.

Lovely, friendly and welcoming staff. Always so happy and attentive during breakfast. Food was lovely, room was serviced very well each day with clean towels daily. Location was perfect. Swimming pool was clean and being given towels to dry each time was great.

We had to pay £5 per room per visit to visit the pool. We NEARLY fell for the email scam when we received a fraudulent request (disguised as though it was from booking.com) to provide more information and to pay some money.

We loved the old style ambience. The hotel has been well maintained and done up over the years. Remember it when I was young growing up in Paignton. My parents would go there on special occassion for a drink. It's in a perfect location and has helped bring back so many memories to me as I now live in Australia. The staff were super efficient and friendly and the food was lovely. We ate in the dining room at night which we weren't especially going to, but Paignton is full of burgers and chips elsewhere so we knew we would get a healthier and nicer meal at the Palace.

Lift could be quiet slow and noisy. Some amenities in the room were quite dated e.g. hair dryer. Beds are very soft and pillows quite thin (using two felt like one average pillow).

Location is great (walkable) and easy parking available. Dining available. Room was comfortable for short stay.
