Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA fantastic place to stay. The owners were super friendly and welcoming giving us really interesting information on the history of the house and area. Seemed happy to give us time to show us the gardens and talk to us, nothing seemed a problem. I also loved the relaxed atmosphere at breakfast. The owners made everyone feel relaxed and easy to chat with each other. Strange I'm normally shy but felt very comfortable. Thank you xx

GermanyOur room was wonderful and the breakfast was delicious. The hosts are welcoming and we enjoyed talking to them very much. The garden is a gem. We really enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend the Old Rectory! The only small thing that irritated me was that the room was serviced rather poorly, only the bin was emptied and the mugs were replaced. The bed wasn't made, the cookie jar wasn't refilled and when we came back in the evening the bath was just as we had left it. It was my birthday and I would have felt more welcome in the evening with a "perfect" room service. But nevertheless: all in all it was just wonderful!

AustraliaNothing. Our two day stay was great.
The Old Rectory has the most amazing history. We stayed in the Thomas Hardy room and read a booklet about some of Harry’s life story. Fascinating. The house is very old but has wonderful decor very in keeping with the house’s history. The huge gardens are amazing and the family work very hard to manage the flowering gardens, trees and the walled vegetable garden. Huge trees surround the property and it is very quiet. Tiny country lanes lead to the property but instructions of how to find the property are very clear. Friendly hostess and fantastic breakfast round off a great stay.

United KingdomNothing to dislike about The Old Rectory.
It's a marvellous place. Very well furnished, tidy and clean. You could not wish for better accommodation. A selection of breakfasts just put the icing on the cake. The hosts are very amicable, and nothing is too much trouble. I highly recommend this accommodation.

United KingdomThe mugs and glasses in our room weren't changed for the duration of our stay, nor was the cookie jar topped up. We were puzzled by this. We didn't need the towels changing so that as Ok ; but we were puzzled by the room not being "made up" while we out. I am sure it was just an oversight.
Breakfast delicious. The actual property was spectacular. The room was great, the location of the Old Rectory was lovely. The best bit was being able to sit in the garden and relax in peace and listen to and watch the birds.

United KingdomIf you are thinking of staying at The Old Rectory, Boscastle you are in for a real treat. This quintessentially English B and B offers a truly peaceful break “far from the madding crowd!” The gardens are beautiful with private places to sit and reflect. The kitchen garden is full of fruit and vegetables and the breakfast eggs are freshly laid by the resident hens. The rooms are comfortable and ours had a stunning view of the garden. I have to say that over the years I have never seen a house so lovingly restored as The Old Rectory. We particularly loved the eco credentials, the tour of the solar panels and biomass boiler and my wife enjoyed using the eco toiletries in the bathroom.

United KingdomThe Thomas Hardy bedroom was a bit small for a three night stay, not much room for luggage. Having said that I believe there are larger rooms which I would request if staying again. I would have preferred breakfast earlier than 8:45am; when travelling every moment is precious! These are small details that were not enough to diminish the absolute pleasure of staying at The Old Rectory, hence a score of 10
The hosts were welcoming and friendly. The actual property is just divine, with the conservatory available for guests. We ate our tea in there twice. A conservatory is not something we see in hot Australia. The garden is truly spectacular with magnificent, sweeping views from a vantage point that has seating and all one requires for an evening glass of wine while surveying the exquisite view. The beautiful walled garden, from where fresh food was served at breakfast, was very, very special; a major highlight in our holiday. of course I will not share photos of the walled garden; aren’t all walled gardens Secret Gardens? The thrill of opening the door into the walled garden must be every visitor’s special delight. Our stay at The Old Rectory was such that it was far and away our favourite part of our holiday.

United KingdomWe couldn't stay longer. It drizzled all day on our first day, we only stayed over the weekend. Our Sat Nav took us the long way through narrow lanes, it was dark as we were late arrivals. We didn't use that route again.
We loved the History and location of this beautiful Rectory. Our breakfast choice was more than enough and delicious. The Rectory and its gardens are beautiful. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful regarding the history of the Rectory and Boscastle. Including surrounding areas of interest to visit. A lovely quiet stay in the countryside. We'd stay there again but try a different room if possible. Thank you to the owners, for making our stay so lovely.
