Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe enjoyed the option of the ‘Gardeners breakfast’. The lady supporting guests at breakfast was lovely and very helpful. We enjoyed the opportunity to ‘unwind’ for a short while in your peaceful garden - in between shopping and a concert in the Cathedral. The Deanery is a very peaceful setting, yet so very close to the town.

United KingdomNothing not to like in the hotel. Maybe the church bells on Sunday morning, but to be expected so close to the church!!
Made to feel very welcome when we arrived. Accommodation was clean and comfortable, maybe some decor needed a fresh coat of paint, but this did not effect the satisfaction of our stay. Breakfast was delicious, service very efficient. The garden at the rear was beautiful.

United KingdomNothing could be improved for our stay, it was perfect. Well done to the hosts!
We travelled for a wedding so arrived later in the evening. The room was clean and spacious, facilities to make a hit drink plus bottled water. Shower room facilities clean. We went down for breakfast just before 9am and were welcomed to go straight for breakfast. The host was very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was superb, we had the full English. The hotel was quirky and stunning. We would definitely recommend

United KingdomCannot fault hotel, location, good value
Rosie met us on arrival in the car park and helped us with our luggage to our room, She was very professional, friendly and very personable. We could not ask for a better welcome on arrival. All the staff was very professional and friendly. We would certainly revisit again. The sheets, pillows and towels were excellent quality and we had good nights rest. Breakfast was excellent . We cannot fault our stay which was just five minutes walk to the main square.

United KingdomSome things too tired the carpet needs replacing on the main stair however the owners have only had the hotel for a short time and these are things that no doubt get attended to over time

United KingdomThe emphasis is on restaurant with rooms and in all honesty the rooms have been neglected. We booked a superior room and we had to ask to be allocated an alternative room because the room was in poor decorative repair. I shan’t go into detail here but I don’t think since reopening last year the rooms have had any maintenance at all. The room we were provided with after moving was marginally better but a steep climb to the third floor.
Characterful heritage building in excellent location. View of cathedral from our room. Very easy parking. Friendly staff. Very unusual breakfast. Presented extremely well with care and imagination.

United KingdomUpon arrival we where not made to feel welcome. The room itself was not as advertised it was damp cold and no views, and the breakfast which was the hotels selling point was just a crutch to hold up a poor stay
The location is very convenient.

United KingdomBathroom was very large but only a shower...easily room for a freestanding bath. Check in area seems strange...there is a large area at the foot of the impressive staircase which would make an ideal location for a welcome desk. However this is full of a strange collection of gifts and eggs and scones which seems rather out of place , all on ugly shelving units. Check in is just done at the bar with staff sitting customer side on a laptop. Just seemed odd. Main lounge area had lovely log fire but the outside door opened straight into this area so there were cold drafts. It would have been easy to make the door into the staircase area the main door thereby avoiding this problem in the winter. Again it just had a slightly bizarre atmosphere with a 1950s small train set on the main coffee table and old dolls houses stacked in a corner. Unfortunately we were unable to eat in the restaurant during the evening as the only food option was an £85 pp 12 course meal with no choices. Hopeless if you arent an 'eat everything' type of person. Again breakfast was on the strange side: no choices, no menus and described as a 'breakfast banquet'. We did get a veggie option for my partner on request and many of the individual parts of the breakfast were delicious. However judging by the expressions of other guests at breakfast we werent the only one who felt rather uncomfortable with it all and would have preferred some form of choice or menu. The only other comment I would make would be the choice of music played during the evening and breakfast. I do think that staff should consider this carefully regarding the type of guests this type of venue attracts. Music makes such a difference to atmosphere and conversation against it. Music suitable for a trendy wine bar aimed at young people is surely not right for a high end restaurant with guests of an average age over 40s. So much potential here ...but it all needs a bit of tweaking.
Lovely large room overlooking Ripon Cathedral, staff all very friendly. Large bathroon. Attractive building in a great location with guest parking, opposite Ripon Cathedral. Log fire in lounge/ bar area.

United KingdomMake sure the bed covers are clean and suit case stool would be better
Staff was wonderful always there to help, the good was exceptional, but felt the room was a bit of a let down, shower is small and tired, and no proper wardrobe to put your clothes in, it was just a bar between the mirror and wall, and our travel bags had to stay on the floor, no stool to put them on, we also had a couple of marks in the bed covers.

United KingdomThe carpets in the communal areas were tatty and there was a damp smell on the stair way leading up to the rooms but as this was such an old building this could be forgiven. We stayed more than one night and the hotel does not refresh the rooms so not enough toiletries and you need to wash your own mugs if you want to have drinks in your room after your first night.
Fantastic location in a wonderful house full of character and charm. The view of the cathedral from our room at the front of the hotel was amazing. The charming town was less than 1 minute walk. The town had a good collection of independent retailers as well as major chains. The hosts were friendly. The rooms were presented well and clean. You are free to come and go without restriction/curfew. Breakfast was well cooked and presented.
