The host, Lorrie, was very friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was delicious and well cooked, as was the curry we had in the bar the night before.

Great pub full of character with many original 18th century fittings. The landlord Lorrie, could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We were walking the Pennine Way and the pub is approx 1.25 miles from the PW. Lorrie was able to give us a lift back to the PW the following morning which was really appreciated

Lovely old building but modern rooms within. Very comfortable. Good WiFi, great atmosphere. The innkeeper was incredibly helpful and accommodating - rustling us up a late evening meal as we arrived late (we’d talked to him first). Superb breakfast too. Really friendly place- was a lovely crew of locals at the bar who were delightful to meet and very friendly. You should visit. It’s perfect for cycling and walkers and in a lovely location with great welcome. An inn that deserves to succeed.

This is a very nice place in the country, Laurie is a great host. In the evening we had a pleasant chat about life in the UK and our country, it was very interesting. The accommodation is pleasant, the breakfast is excellent, we enjoyed the real English countryside. Highly recommend.

The mattress sloped down at the edge so I felt I was falling off and had to go to the other side. Also I noticed a tidemark in my breakfast teacup.

It was an interesting place, the owner was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was outstanding.

It would be easy to raise an issue, but it must be remembered that the building is extremely old and has lots of history. So all in all the accommodation is really good

The quaintness of the building & inside furniture. Welcomed by Laurie, who was friendly and very sociable. Selection of drink, food very good & breakfast was excellent

Difficult to judge as it was very quiet when we visited. The room we were in, though functional, I thought it could perhaps do with a little updating… Information available online a bit inconsistent- landlord aware & working on it.

Very helpful, friendly & accommodating landlord. Lovely breakfast. Very good shower - really important after a long day on the Pennine Way. Interesting, characterful property, with a lot of history I’m sure. Laurie, the landlord has only recently taken over the Inn - It will be interesting to see how he develops it. Good overnight stop for Pennine Way, as long as you have transport back to Dufton for the next day (which we did).

Lovely old pub in a quiet village close to Appleby. It was a brilliant place to stay. The staff were very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for the landlord Laurie. Delicious food, comfy rooms and the quiz night was great fun.
