Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomService at the Reception could’ve been better, Was not given much information or Spa treatment Price list. Room had cob webs around the windows and had to ask the room to be cleaned again. Local Taxi takes too long to arrive and also Buses in the evening, are awful as you’ll end up waiting over 30 mins . Breakfast menu not much to offer, More Vegetarian options need to be Available. Also Only fried egg and no scrambled egg, or Vegetarian sausage was available.
Location is beautiful. And Pool access until 9pm was great

United KingdomThe quality of the breakfast items could have been better. The bread seemed very basic and the layout of the buffet was very amateurish in presentation. We were in room 405 and it was very warm. The downside of no air conditioning. The decor did look tired.
We liked the location of the Grand - right on the seafront with sea view The bedroom size was good We liked the Compass Bar, sun terrace and the outside pool looked good.

United KingdomVery noisy hotel. Putting children to bed at 9.30pm which I think is late but music was still playing very loud and could be clearly heard in our room. Went on until midnight. Not good when you want to go to sleep. My husband felt water being dripped on him in bed during the night, there was a leak in the ceiling which must have been coming from bathroom above. Water marks on the ceilings so hotel must already know about this. Breakfast menu could have more choice - maybe offer scrambled eggs, and pancakes etc. it would be nice to order a breakfast rather then help yourself from a buffet. Service at the bar was very very slow.
Great location. Helpful staff. Secure parking Nice swimming pool.

United KingdomThe car park spaces were way too small. Breakfast was well below standard and not recommended. Our room did not have air conditioning. The windows were dirty, and one of the double glazing units was full of water.
The location and see views were lovely.

United KingdomCan't say we disliked anything - if we've really got to be picky then maybe the table service at the evening meals need to be 'tightened' - but if you 'go with the flow' like we did -you'll enjoy the experience!
Having stayed at The Grand at various times pre Covid and now returning for a weeks stay - it was good. There are things which could be better but honestly you are here to enjoy, so dot fall into the 'moaning Minnie's trap' and spoil your holiday!! The Balcony room on the 3rd Floor was brilliant and all the staff are helpful and friendly.

United KingdomI injured my hand very badly, (split my knuckle open, lots of blood) holding the outside room door handle whilst closing the door. The door forced closed trapping my hand against the outside door frame. Reported this to reception who gave me plasters and had the door was readjusted by the maintenance man.
Excellent staff, and great food.

United KingdomThe only thing that springs to mind, although more of a niggle than a dislike, is that if you are on the 1st floor and central to the hotel, the "sea view" that you get also has the roof of the compass bar. That said it is a sea view and you can see across the bay to the harbour and the town.
The hotel is in a nice location and only a short walk in to town. There is plenty of parking available. Torquay railway station is right across the road. Whilst the hotel fits in with expectations of a period hotel in Torquay, the room that we had was a little dated in terms of decor. Our room was however, clean, tidy and comfortable. The compass bar was nice and we had afternoon tea whilst there along with drinks in the evening. All staff were polite and professional, afternoon tea was lovely and there was a wide range of drinks available. There was a wide range of options for breakfast including some vegetarian options on top of the usual cereal, toast, hot breakfast, fruit and pastries.

United KingdomMy breakfast, from the buffet, was stone cold. I ate it as I was in a hurry, but found out later that there had been an electrical fault. Subsequent guests were given freshly cooked breakfasts.
The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom, which was modern and up to date, was spoiled by the black mould at the base of the shower screen.

United KingdomThe radiators in the rooms we were given were very old and so the rooms were very cold during the first night. They needed to be bled as there was only a tiny bit of heat at the bottom when on full. We mentioned this but nothing was done and we were not given a room change
