Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLiterally the only reason we didn't give 10 out of 10 is the lack of outside space to sit out in. The weather was gorgeous when we visited and it would have been nice to sit out in the evening, or have morning coffee outside.
Beautiful & comfortable cottage. Very tastefully decorated with all the comforts of home. Very clean and well looked after. Great location, very friendly locals and a lovely pub a few feet away. Would highly recommend 👌

United KingdomUsing the stairs needs to be respected, but all part of the character of building.
We both loved our stay at Gate Cottage. Accomodation provided everything we were seeking. Location in town was as good as it gets and the views of the church from top floor window were superb. Host was there on arrival and proved very helpful. We were very pleased to have discovered this wonderful little cottage, we'll be hoping to get a chance to rebook soon.

United KingdomSmaller than expected, no cooking facilities other than a microwave.. OK as we ate out.. The narrow staircase was quite steep..The shower tiles could do with bleaching .. a bit marked but nothing major.. Not much hot water.. seemed to run out quickly.. not enough for consecutive showers for hubby & I.
Proximity to town was great.. nice pub The Swan is virtually next door. Cute, compact & bijou upside down cottage. Bedroom on ground floor and sitting room upstairs. Lovely view of village church opposite. The village is super lovely & a great base to travel around.

SingaporeIt's fully self catering so there wasn't any basic tea, coffee etc provided although upon asking, host kindly gave me couple of tea bags n coffee /milk sachets. Fortunately, shops still open so managed to get some. Also, hot water switch was off on arrival. Matter sorted the following morning. Not an issue but such matters shd be checked before guests arrive. Also no where to hang clothes. However, overall, it was fine. Some small tweaks n it would have been excellent.
Very conveniently located n overall comfortable

United KingdomNo hot water, couldn't have a shower, boiled the kettle, for a wash. It really needs sorting out, it was its only fault, but unfortunately a big fault.
It was quaint. Well positioned, as we were attending a wedding. It is comfortable and very clean.

United KingdomI would describe this accommodation as a hybrid - not quite self-catering. Its size probably doesn't lend itself to a fully equipped kitchen with a table to eat it. It was fine for breakfasts and microwave meals. The stairs were a bit scary (narrow and shallow front to back). We found it difficult to watch live programmes on the TV...probably our own lack of tech savviness.
Very central location. Lovely area to explore. Delightful hosts; friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds. Comfortable sitting space. Cosy carpeting.

In the heart of the village, with shops, pubs, eateries and the windmill a stones through away. Ben was very friendly and gave my partner a chair for sitting out in the courtyard. He asked if everything was ok for us and if we needed anything.

FranceIt was alright for us but there should be a warning that the stairs are very steep. Some elderly or less agile person would find them very hard. Especially coming down.

United KingdomThere was a bit of noise of planes taking off/landing from Stansted airport, plus from cars on the road outside, though this didn't affect us hugely as it wasn't noticeable through the night. A small dining chair/table set would have been preferable to eating at a tray table from the sofa. We had to request the WiFi password even though the TV was connected up to the WiFi. But overall this was a good deal for the price/location and gave us the feel of a cottage holiday but with the convenience/flexible booking options of a hotel.
Unique location, opposite the church, in a historic building. Excellent communication throughout. Cosy, comfortable and had everything we needed for a short stay.

United KingdomHot water lasted around 4 minutes before turning ice cold. Cutlery was dirty and is very outdated what there is of it, the bed frame itself (a metal 4 poster) makes a constant squeaking noise with the slightest deep breath, the mattress has completely collapsed either side with a hump in the middle, damp in the corner which can’t be helped due to the age of a listed property but it’s soaked into the carpet which could be rectified, the bathroom sink is blocked and backs up, and the sofa is small, uncomfortable with stains on it and shredded on the arms from what I imagine was cats.
