The Floorboards in the floor were I stayed were very creaky so I could hear the person in room 310 moving about and when I was walking in my room I assumed they could hear me. That made me anxious about disturbing them. The walls were very thin too so I could hear the person in room 310 coughing, sneezing etc as well as their conversations on the telephone.

    Great location, clean; friendly staff.

    Great staff , fading hotel

The room was noisy because I could hear the neighbouring guests talking most of the night. Creaky floorboards didn’t help, but they are part of the charm of the fading grandeur. It’s a shame a lovely building such as this looks a little run down and crying out for a paint job and a little love to rejuvenate it. It was all a bit basic and on the cheap (decor, breakfast ingredients) but the staff made out for that.

The staff were all lovely , friendly and willing to assist whenever possible.

The lift is tiny for wheelchairs, and mine only just fit, and the path leading into the entrance of of hotel needs to be clear of leaves and rubbish. They get caught in wheels!

Friendly helpful staff, tried to meet dietary requirements even at short notice.

Great seaside hotel with genuine friendly professional staff just needs air con on the hot summer days

So I booked The Cumberland hotel as a seaside birthday treat with my girlfriend (9th sept 2023). The only negative feedback (constructive criticism) was that the room we were allocated didn’t have any form of air conditioning which is the only thing that put a downer on our stay, it was a very hot late summer day/night and it made sleeping very uncomfortable for myself and my girlfriend, other than that I was pretty pleased with our stay at the Cumberland hotel, we got a fairly decent room with a lovely seafront view for a very reasonable price, I would definitely recommend this hotel and it will still remain a first choice whenever I’m in Eastbourne again as opposed to The Cavendish hotel adjacent (don’t get me started on that place) I know air con is very expensive but even having a portable fan available would’ve made all the difference. To summarise, I will definitely be back again at this hotel in the future but please have some form of air con available for the hot summer days (and maybe check the tv signal strength coz we were struggling to watch the news but that’s not a pressing issue) Hope this review isn’t too harsh but I feel it’s necessary to highlight the flaws as a first time customer but overall I’m sure I’ll be booking again in the future if I’m in the area

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very professional and friendly, and the atmosphere is exactly what I would expect for a “traditional”seaside hotel and very reasonably priced at this time of year

Noise at night from hotel itself, squeaky floors, and doors banging although to be expected in a old period building. Disco noise till gone 1am from hotel ballroom a private function, and the noise from these people returning to there rooms.

Breakfast, location, lift, the ELO concert music from the bandstand opposite the hotel. very pleasant, and helpful staff.

Would have liked a separate balcony rather than a shared one, not sure if partitions can be put in? I'd usually not mind but I was away to clear my head and needed space.

Lovely clean and modern room with a sea view.

Location is good , just acrossing the beach, but not close to the pier, avoid crowds and noise. Arrived by bus , the bus stop just around the corner! Good price also make it competitive! Old fashion decorations but clean !
