“Superior” means bigger, not better. And the pictures on booking.com are very misleading. We paid more for the superior but it was in the basement with barely any light and a tiny bathroom. The standard room was upstairs and so much nicer with high ceilings, big windows, spacious bathroom. The pictures for the “superior” show the “bunker” but there’s other basement room/s which are sub-par and overpriced. I raised this with reception but they said they couldn’t control what booking.com show as the pictures associated with the rooms. I would stay again but I’d speak to the hotel first to ensure i was getting a decent room.

We booked 2 rooms. 1 standard and 1 superior. The standard was beautiful. It had just been renovated.

The room was very small and pokey and there was no room to have our bags open. The room was also very stuffy and hot, and the window could not be opened for ventilation. I thought that the room was overpriced for the size of the room.

Loved the boutique feel of the Churchill Inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful and really appreciated the onsite parking. The breakfast was great and ample amount.

I guess if I had to say anything it was around a 7 minute walk from the minister. But that really isn't a criticism!

Clean, tidy, modern. Very friendly staff Didn't try the restaurant but the pizza was very good Parking was easy. Great bathroom facilities, comfy bed. Good atmosphere Intend to return again!

Bed was very soft due to mattress, gave a bad back Also shower pressure was awful. The temp gauge didn’t work properly which meant it took ages go get some cold water through.

It was our fourth stay here and as usual everything was perfect. We absolutely love it and will be back. The restaurant is incredible and the staff friendly. The rooms are lovely.

Delightful stay Ian at reception is an excellent asset to the hotel. Was so helpful and checked if there was anything we needed to just ask. Also girl who we met in the dining room unfortunately, I did not get her name. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The bar area was quite dark with no windows. The charge for parking was expensive at £15 a night.

Our room was pleasant but quite small. It was clean and had everything we needed, Breakfast was good. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, especially Ian on reception. The beer garden was lovely with plenty of heaters at the tables for those chilly evenings. The pizzas served were delicious

Lack of bathroom storage - but that's literally all I can find fault with.

We had a family room which was a good size, by some standards of similar accommodation in York. The reception staff were all very friendly and approachable, nothing was a bother. Clean, with gorgeous toiletries, fluffy towels but a distinct lack of drawer / bathroom space for 3 people for 3 nights. Beds were comfy with fantastic sleep quality. We didn't eat breakfast as £18.95 is a lot to pay when you only have toast or a bap. I would HIGHLY recommend pizza in the garden. Easy to use table service; again lovely food and staff were lovely. Great location, highly recommended. Just wished we could have stayed longer - til next time, we will definitely be back.

Lack of information about the building’s heritage and past people …. It had a story to tell so tell it Some areas need better maintenance- the whole place has had a face lift probably a few years back but dark woodwork and walls chip and a lot of the paint work needs touching up now. No menu or information in the room For these reasons only I reduced it to 8 star rating

Having to pay £15 a day to park seeing I was paying £250 a night for a room…. Breakfast could do with a children’s menu or rate because kids around 6 to 10 only eat half the amount an adult does just a waist of food and money.

I would like to have more control over the room heating, as it is controlled by a main thermostat. It was not cold, but it could have been better.

Great Location, very close to the centre but also quiet. Good breakfast, professional staff and very clean. The room was very comfortable and very clean. There is a wonderful garden to enjoy your drink along with delicious wood-fired pizzas and other food. The Hotel decoration was amazing.

There was nothing we did not like.

We liked the quirky feel to this hotel and the history. The customer service was excellent and the facilities were very good. Ideally located to the city. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
