Unfortunately, as soon as I got to my room, the door was already open... fine... but on checking the lock, the whole locking side of the door was splintered and looked very much like it had previously been kicked and forced open... a few times. Although the lock worked.... I did not feel very secure during my stay. It's an old and beautiful building, but (I hope it just the age of the place) ... there were lots of scuttling sounds throughout the night, so I didn't have the best night sleep and ended up piling my suitcases against the door... 'just in case'.... as the initial viewing of the door frame set a feeling of insecurity from the outset.

The staff were helpful and efficient, and the hotel is a stone's throw from the sea front.

Rooms need to be cleaner with more attention to detail.

Still one of my favorite hotels to stay in Eastbourne, simply because of its location and convenient car park at the back of the hotel. Staff at reception is always very friendly and helpful.

Bed mattress was quite uncomfortable, pillows were as flat as pancakes but (the wonderful and very helpful) reception gladly provided us with extra. Window rattled in the wind so needed to stick some card into the groove to stop this.

The TV was a good size, both the bedding and bathroom were clean, fan came in handy as room got quite stuffy, sea view was lovely, the lift was quick and very reliable, plenty of tea and coffee facilities. Car park had a space each time we needed one and £6 a night was reasonable.

The hotel is in great need of modernisation through a lot of it. The lifts look like they could be the original lifts installed and aren't really fit for purpose. The restaurant staff cleared plates before you were finishing making you feel rushed. Cleaners barged in my room without knocking on day one and once I had moved room didn't come in to replenish anything. Food in bar was amazing but sadly not so good on set menu in evening in main restaurant.

The first room I was in but like a box room, old and had an awful smell and the noise from the nearby bistro was atrocious, however, once I upgraded to a different room (which I paid for) it was stunning.
