A pleasant and convenient and friendly hotel.

The Wifi in the rooms didn't work well which meant the TV didn't either. It wasn't easy to change the temperature in the room as the windows were difficult to open and close owing to secondary double glazing which did keep it quite quiet. There wasn't much in the way of gluten free breakfast food.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bed was comfortable. Decor was clean and pleasant. Bathroom was spotless and well equipped.

Having arrived 20 minutes to check in we were told we had to wait. So we had a drink with family already there and at 3 o’clock we checked in. Minor point but it was frustrating because absolutely no different staff were needed, the room was clearly ready 20 minutes before because nobody came down so it was obvious it was just sticking to policy. After five hour journeys is difficult to plan arrival to the exact time. So in summary while we felt that although the staff were friendly it felt a little cold. Prices were a lot higher than previous stay making things not very good value for money. Nowhere to relax in comfrey chairs for residents.

It’s a lovely traditional inn with lots of character. Good tasty food.

Unfortunately, we stayed on the first really cold night of September, and the room was pretty chilly as no heating. Function room a bit bleak. Broken toilet seat, which we reported.

Position, helpful staff, nice view from room, comfy bed. Good food, main bar area cosy.

I was only there for one night but the breakfast was lovely and really well cooked. We chose it because it was dog friendly but in the end she stayed at home with my partner. Definitely go back again.

After the great meal the night before breakfast was a disappointment. The eggs benedict were good but the English breakfast just OK and my pancakes were the most dry and solid pancakes I have ever been served.

Friendly welcome, nice garden for drinks even if situated on a main road. Rooms comfortable, bathroom a little dated but the shower was good. The dinner menu was very good, we had a selection of starters and they were all excellent. It was Sunday evening and full of local people out for dinner, we were glad the hotel had suggested reserving a table.

Pub situated next to a busy road, which is noisy if you are at the front and like the window open. Restaurant was short staffed when we ate there for dinner, so rather a long wait for drinks and food. Would also have liked more options for breakfast such as porridge and fruit.

Comfortable hotel room with character, due to pub being an old building. friendly staff and great food. The restaurant was very busy when we ate there. Breakfast good well prepared.

As a hotel it was excellent. I ate in the restaurant for evening meal and didn’t really enjoy it, the food was a little average. However breakfast in the morning was great.

Excellent hotel, my room was lovely and clean and the staff were all very helpful and also lovely.

Non dog area not clearly identified and then got told off for trying to sit at table in this area with our dog. Had to move to other side of room which wasn’t as nice. Was more a thoroughfare from kitchen to rest of pub.

    Friendly and helpful.

We didn’t feel very welcomed when we arrived. Maybe because we were a little early or because the manager was obviously very busy … The fire escape light in our room was very bright which made it a bit difficult to sleep.

Lovely big ground floor room with a big bed and bathroom with Bramley products. Pretty garden. Good breakfast. Friendly waitress in the evening. Pretty village with a lovely walk along the river to Sidmouth.

Everything was very nice, if I did have a criticism , my daughter is celiac which I mentioned when booking so would have been nice to have some gluten free choices. It wasn’t a problem as I always bring food with me just in case. And she was able to have a cooked breakfast avoiding food that contained gluten.

Room and bathroom were lovely, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, good choice and cooked really well. Staff were friendly.

We stayed during a very warm spell and the room was quite hot. So, putting a duvet on the beds at Tog 10.5 was rather crazy. We could have asked for a change but using just the cover was quite sufficient!

Very good breakfast with some interesting/unusual choices. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The Blue Ball has a large car park, is close to a straightforward path to Sidmouth and is on bus route.
