Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomVery little parking. We managed to get parking the first day but the second day we had to pay for it down the road. The bathroom also had a slightly mouldy smell and we could not work out why because there was no mould visible.
The breakfast was nice and the staff friendly. Coffee with breakfast was a bit of letdown though but at least there was a coffee machine and pods in the room to had coffee there Instead of the dining room. Room was nicely decorated, can tell they have been refurbished. We had mentioned we are travelling with our 7 year old son and they set up two extra single beds in the room when one would’ve been sufficient but it was lucky the room was big enough that we did mind it. The hotel Is also located across from two great restaurants - the Crispín Pub and Toll Bridge SmokeHouse. Both really good

United KingdomMy friend's - single room - was very small and represented poor value for money at £185 per night. Overpriced.
Great location, with a bar area which would be great in the summer. Staff were polite, breakfast was good.

United StatesRoom wasn't ready at 3:00 pm arrival. But Brendan, receptionist, took our luggage upstairs, so that helped out when we returned twenty minutes later. TV selection limited. With the PGA Championship on SkySports, it would have been nice to have had that fairly standard British amenity. Not sure we would have selected in Sandwich if I hadn't had my eye set on RSG's, probably would have stayed in Canterbury. But I'm glad we did stay in Sandwich! It is a decent hotel and a very good place to stay in one of England's best preserved old towns.
The Bell Hotel is "very good." We traveled by train to/from London, and 1/2 mile walk to hotel flat. Two security guards at station did volunteer to help us with rollaway luggage over the tracks, but otherwise it was an easy walk to hotel. It is ideally situated in Sandwich, a quiet Medieval town. Walking paths by and around river and town, which my wife enjoyed while I play golf at RSG's one of the two mornings we stayed there are extensive and are used by locals; my wife felt very safe. (RSG will pick you up and return you.) Fish and Chips traditional and excellent; breakfast off-the-menu very good, and staff friendly. Beware there is no elevator, and the stairs are steep to room. But room with view of River Stour, open doors, and small balcony, fit our tastes. PS Namaste restaurant in alley behind hotel is excellent for Indian food and jammin' on a Thursday night. I hear from local source that Luigi's is also very good.

United KingdomStayed 2 nights with our 10yr old daughter. First night given a large room but with hearing stifling & unable to turn down & no hot water for a bath / shower. Raised with staff & they moved us rooms the next morn. Second room had no working tv & they couldn’t fix all day after several attempts, norm wouldn’t bother me but hubby & daughter like a tv. Breakfast on the Sun morn was extremely slow service with other guests arriving after us in dining room but served first & after 40 mins we still didn’t receive our hot breakfast orders so gave up as needed be elsewhere by 10am . Receptionist & Gen Manager apologetic and understood .
The location by the river was lovely. Rooms spacious and light , beds large and very comfy, food great and staff very attentive and when experienced several issues listened and apologised and did what they could to rectify asap.

United KingdomThe available car parking arrangements could have been explained a lot more clearly. We were unlucky enough to have a party of drunken young men staying immediatley above us. They kept us awake for hours and made a horrible mess on our balcony. There was nothing the hotel staff could realistically have done about this, except to blacklist the guilty guests against future stays. Which they appear to have done.
Location is very good, and the hotel is splendid old building which has been well looked after.
