I inadvertently booked and paid for the wrong night. Tried to cancel but the accommodation policy did not allow. I rebooted for the correct night,24 hours prior and spent a reasonable amount of money I tbe restaurant. I asked the manager of they could refund my following nights accommodation but was informed that it was something I needed to take up with Booking.com I have bit still no response from the Hotel or Booking.com. Simple mistake that didn't inconvenience the hotel as they informed me that they had rooms available the following night !

Friendly enough . Bar staff were great and enthusiastic

No hot water from bathroom sink tap. No mattress cover. Space outside rooms a complete mess. Unwanted tables and chairs from pub piled up. Wheelie bin overflowing. Two cars appeared abandoned there. Patio area outside room a mess with weeds everywhere.

The views from the garden and from our room were fabulous. The room was adequate

The double bed was basically 2 singles put together. This gave us an uncomfortable ridge down the middle of the 'double' bed. The facilities could do with a bit of a makeover, they were clean though. We can't complain about that. The room was just a little tired looking, could do with some modernisation.

It was exactly what we needed for 1 night. Very pleasant staff, happy to accommodate requests. The view from our room was stunning.

Sadly the loo had not been cleaned and was covered in excrement. There was no toilet brush to clean it ourselves. The hot tap produced only a trickle of water but shower OK. The young man at the bar on our arrival was very friendly which cannot be said for the girl in the evening. The food was mediocre and not very plentiful. Once again mushy peas were replaced by ordinary peas.

This was our fourth stay and we have always found the room spacious and clean, with large, comfy bed and a beautiful view right next to Batemans. Tea and coffee provision and a mini fridge which was very useful.

Room cleanliness needs a little more attention - A check list would be advisable, bins not emptied from previous guests, tv remote not working.

Staff were polite, professional, and courteous. Lovely location with stunning views - Perfect beer garden, food was very well presented, fresh, and great value.

Shabby - could do with an update. No remote for the TV. Could not get a taxi back to property (no fault of theirs!). One member of staff audibly not helpful and clearly did not want us to check in early!

Big bed, lovely view, spacious room. One member of staff very friendly and helpful and was able to check us in early so we could change for a wedding.

I didn't know you could request a continental breakfast for the morning. This is an option we would have used if we had known about it, especially as we had to leave early while most places were still shut.

I have stayed here before. You get nice rooms for a reasonable price I notice blinds have been put up in the bathroom - this is a positive improvement which gives better privacy at night time Plenty of free parking, and quiet roads make from a stress-free experience

I wish I had booked direct having stayed in 2019. Yes, it is a Motel so I guess most people stay 1 or 2 nights. We were booked in for 5 nights. Rooms 5 to 8 have wonderful views across the countryside and we stayed in one of those before. We would have been ok with room 4 which is in the end nearest 5 to 8 and , as at right angles, has a partial view. But we were put in room 1. I did ask if there was a chance to move but appeared not. We faced a hedge with the outside pub tables the other side and higher. Nobody could see in fortunately. Patio doors with big curtains. No nets or blinds in room or fanlight to open except in bathroom.

Good size clean room. Very comfy twin beds. Good shower with (rare) handrail. Towels were not usual Terry towelling but appeared to be from IKEA. Excellent. Good storage, drawers, wardrobe. Pub does not do breakfast but good cafe close by opens 5 days a week.Village shop opposite. Handy as room has small fridge. Private parking.

    Herbal tea option

After reading the previous reviews I was slightly concerned about what we would arrive to. But was very pleasantly surprised. Our purpose was of the trip was to visit Sarah Raven’s garden and Great Dixter. I stayed in the double room and my friend the twin with two single beds. The room was very nicely furnished with a stylish wooden floor and stunning view over the valley. The bed was comfy ( although was happy that I had brought my own pillow) Bathroom was sparkling clean with a seriously large, hot shower. Nothing more I could have asked for and my friend agreed. Spent the evening staring out over the valley. Very peaceful and relaxing. We did however have dinner over the road at The Rose and Crown which was fabulous as the main bar area of The Bear Inn didn’t have much atmosphere. Breakfast was had at The Old Orchard Nursery which we highly recommend. (Where breakfasts are named after famous gardeners very suitable for our trip!) Would definitely come and stay again

The lock on the patio door was broken so couldn’t lock it. Key to open the front door was tricky. Had to keep fiddling about to unlock. Would have been nice to have biscuits with the tea and coffee. Not serving a cooked breakfast a big disappointment so charging just under £100 just for a bed is a bit expensive

Location was perfect for the function we were attending and the view from my room was lovely.

Building itself is tired and in disrepair. Broken down car in the carpark with flat tyres and v messy residents carpark reflects the lack of care. It's a tired block with no style.

View from the room is awesome. Rolling hills and beautiful landscape. You can't get views like that everywhere so it's a major plus. V clean room. Staff were v welcoming and friendly.
