Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was no communication at all from the host. “The Barge” is not written anywhere on the boat. When we eventually plucked up the courage to go inside it felt like we were entering a ghost ship. Shortly before leaving we tried to contact the host about a failure of the toilet flush but got no response.
A very comfortable room in a delightfully quirky housing. Loads of space. Great views especially when the tide was in. The cleaner was delightful.

United KingdomThe bed was creaky, every time you turned round, not good. Had to buy toilet roll, as could not find any spare, would be good for some bk up.. also would have been nice if window outside was clean, cause the view was beautiful. It would also would have been nice to have a welcome book, and things like hiw to work heating etc. .
I like the size of the room.. the shower was excellent.

United StatesThere were no instructions for the heating, and it was a little tricky to get to turn on. Since there is no one on site to help, I think a simple instruction would have been handy. Since it is a barge, the walls are quite thin, so I also think a note to guests to try not to slam doors and keep noise in the hall to a minimum out of curiosity to their fellow guests would be helpful for all.
I liked the location and the funky uniqueness of the property. You are definitely living on a boat with all the nuances that come along with that. Keep in mind that it is a 100-year-old barge...not the Queen Mary. My room had a fabulous shower and very comfortable bed.

AustraliaA little cramped understandably, no place to sit but the bed. Working out how to get the shower going was a puzzle I could have done without :)
The location was perfect, and it's a novel experience overnighting on a barge

United KingdomI would like to say '' That none of the points mentioned below ruined our stay, as we had a lovely time, and would stay there again, but there was room for improvement. Considering this, I think the price should reflect that. On arrival, the tide was out, and the boat looked a bit shabby. There is no sign anywhere that says it's the 'Barge', and there was a sign hanging from the railings advertising someone else's business. So I didn't think we were at the right boat. On the photo of the room, it looks as good as a hotel, but there was peeling paint in quite a few places. The ceiling in the room had a repair, but they hadn't painted over it. The bathroom window didn't shut properly, so It might be a bit cold to stay there in the colder months. The sound proofing wasn't great, as we could hear the guy next door quite clearly. If you have only got half the boat booked, I would have the guests further apart.
I thought the location was great. I loved the view being so close to the water and watching the birds floating by. The bathroom was nice and spacious, which was great as my husband is a big guy. The room was presentable and looked nice. It was nice to be able to sit in comfy chairs with a table and have a cuppa, just watching the view. There was ample tea and coffee supplied. It was just across from the pub and places to eat, which was great. We had a lovely time, and would stay there again.

United KingdomWeb page booking should advise that breakfast is available locally as above as people who do not know may be put off from booking.
Comfortable, clean and great location. Happy with ‘no breakfasts’ as there is an option in a cafe opposite that does good breakfasts.

United KingdomBetter clarity around where the barge was. e.g. The name of it, the marine services sign or the nearest restaurant would have been helpful. Whilst it was the only barge, we had to walk the full length of the harbour to establish this. Greater clarity around the fact that you only have a room on the barge and that there may be others on board with you. Bottled water would have been a nice touch.
Lovely setting on the water and right near cafes, restaurants and nice walks. The room was spacious and comfortable. Being on a barge was a lot of fun. Thank you.

United KingdomNo communal area or restaurant/cafe. Few issues like the shower doesn’t quite drain due it all being an a slight slope. Noisy water pump. But I’d come back as it is quite cool.
Quirky barge. Very spacious rooms. Clean. Good location. Amazing views of the harbour and birds.

United KingdomTwice I asked before I arrived if there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room but I never got a reply. The toilet roll holder in the room is very very rusty! And the damaged roof where it has previously leaked needs repairing. Both these things let the accommodation down and would not take much effort or time to repair. Nice quirky place to stay but need to paint the outside, note in the room said this was going to start in April, now into May and no sign of it starting to get done!!!

United KingdomThere wasnt anything that we didnt like but maybe a mini fridge for keeping milk / and or provisions would be good but space being limited maybe that is not possible.
A great spot in the lovely village of Tarbet. The cabin was very tastefully done and we had everything we needed. It was a very comfortable bed. The view to wake up to was just perfect. We spotted the heron sitting in wait from our window. An additional bonus was having the option to go on to the outer deck with the sunny weather! Thank you to the owner and cleaner who were understanding when we forgot about the clock change and were a bit late checking out!
