Lovely hotel but needs some cosmetic work in the rooms

We stayed in the McMillan suite, the bed is extremely loud to the extent that it wakes you up turning over in the night. It's a beautiful looking bed and very comfortable but very loud, squeaky and creaks with a small movement, it needs tightening up, the floor above was also extremely noisy just walking around but it's so squeaky, our whole room was the same. The floor boards need something done to them as from 6am the people upstairs were walking around and it was so loud it woke me and my husband, I'm a heavy sleeper but did not sleep well due to the noise. The shower was either freezing cold or boiling hot there was no in the middle temperature. More than Half the sockets in the room couldn't be used as weren't British, there was more American style sockets than British. Downstairs the hotel looked amazing but upstairs where the rooms were very tired looking, carpets very worn, door frames needed painting.

It's a beautiful hotel and the staff in the restaurant were fantastic. We stayed here for a wedding and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. The grounds are beautiful and so is the hotel, I'd highly recommend staying here, very good value for money.

We stayed at the Finley suite. It was huge but had a weird uncomfortable design. They didn’t even have a bottle of water in the room, heating was okay okay, the TV was so far that it wasn’t even visible properly from the bed.

The gardens and location was good

    Room in courtyard/annex
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple
    • Courtyard Room
    • Stayed 1 night

We booked a room in the courtyard/annex, which I guess used to be the servants quaters back in the day? No idea. Anyway, the room was very big which was nice and the shower/bathroom was also big. You access the building via a door code and I saw no staff in the annex, but assume they are concentrated in the main building. There are multiple overflow car parks so even if it looks full at the front you can find more spaces in the woody area by the annex. We walked around the grounds and saw the cows, which was a big plus. However, for the price this was a rip off, paid the price per night of a luxury hotel and this wasn't it.

Nothing we didn't like about the hotel except it was looking a bit tired in many areas. Carpets and curtains worn/torn etc.

Excellent facility with friendly helpful staff. Breakfast cooked to order. Lift for higher floors. Location great and easy to access.

Parts of the property are quite worn and need upgrading. I found the beds very hard and uncomfortable. Some of the public areas needed better cleaning - parts of the bar area needed a good dust. Behind Reception looked really dirty and shabby. My safe wouldn’t work and I was just told the batteries were probably flat. Hardly any toilet paper in room initially. Small niggles but not what you expect in a former very prestigious hotel. Large off -putting stain beside bed. Windows difficult to open and close. Window in original room dirty and mouldy and only opened from the bottom on to grass and woods - so I was too nervous to have the window open.

Great location for my needs. I was unhappy with my room because of security issues and was upgraded to a better room at no extra cost which was very much appreciated. The waitresses in particular were just great, helpful, smiley and warm.

Lovely, comfortable stay in the Scottish highlands but would definitely go elsewhere for food

The food offering at the restaurant left a lot to be desired - we both had steak and it was very chewy and tough - not very edible. Also it was a massive reduction from the menu on the website which was a disappointment. Also the breakfast service seemed quite disjointed. We ordered our breakfast and saw hot food continuously coming out for guests that arrived well after us and received attitude from staff when we asked about where our food was. Would have also loved more healthy options with fresh fruit and vegetables both on the dinner menu as well as at bbreakfast.

Really appreciated the state of the rooms and the comfort level - rooms were very large and well kept as well as clean. Location was really nice in regards to proximity to the beach as well as the Nairn train station.

Being an old hotel, some things were in need of a re-fresh, everything was functional.

Beautiful country house hotel in a large park. Our room (I think it was 102) in the oldest part of the hotel was large and had a beautiful view of the ocean in the distance. Excellent staff. Loved the Scottish cows in the pasture.

Felt reception could’ve been a bit better on arrival as were in the courtyard and was just told to head out door. Courtyard rooms obviously old but cobwebs in the windows and lots of insects when we opened one. Think if were opened and cleaned on a regular basis would make room look better

Location was good as we were visiting friends. Comfy bed and good breakfast.

It was all great.. but if i was being really picky it would have been ideal if it had an electric car charge point. They are few and far between in Inverness. Signage felt v budget, for quite a grand hotel.

Great value for money. Staff all absolutely lovely and we felt v welcomed. Breakfast was delicious - full Scottish breakfast, toast, coffee and tea and more. Room was really clean and bed v comfortable. Lots of free parking. Highly recommend.
