Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOur rooms at Sutherlands Guest House were very spacious. We had a large bedroom with a really comfortable king-sized bed, two comfortable chairs and a table, another room with closet space, a refrigerator stocked with milk and water bottles, a kettle with teas and coffees and cookie and candy treats, and a spacious bathroom with a nice shower on one side and a separate bathtub on the other. There was also a large living room that we shared with the other room on our floor. There were chairs and a table in the lovely garden out back, where we ate our take-out one evening. Our hosts were very warm and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. Our host is a trained chef and it showed in the quality, variety and presentation of the food! It was a nice, scenic, quiet home base from which to visit Blair Castle and Pitlochry one day and to go hiking in Cairngorms National Park the next day. The ruins of the Ruthven Barracks can be seen in the distance from the window of our room there and was worth a quick visit at the end of one of our days out.

United KingdomThere is absolutely nothing to dislike. Just wished we had stayed longer.
This has to be the best b & b accommodation we have ever stayed in. Absolutely beautiful, spacious room and a huge bathroom with steam room. Felt like we were staying in a 5* star luxury hotel. In fact, this is probably better. The breakfast was fantastic with a great choice to choose from. I can honestly say Sutherlands Guest House was outstanding in every way. Thank you for having us in your beautiful home.

United StatesThis is a top notch lodging with exceptional hosts and amenities. Breakfasts are prepared by a professional chef, the house and decor are exquisite and every detail is addressed - with many extras beyond normal amenities. I also loved the location. Kingussie is a peaceful, lovely village to conveniently walk about either in town or on easily accessible trails. It is a short drive to hiking in the Cairngorms. The train station is barely 5 minutes walk from the lodging and bike rentals are available in town. I took the train to Inverness (45 minutes) to see sights one day and rented a bike to travel the bike path to an outdoor museum in the next village another day. I enjoyed eating takeaway fish and chips in the village memorial green one evening. Longer sightseeing drives (1 to 1.5 hours) could be taken to Balmoral, coastal towns, or the distillery trail. A perfect place!

This rates as one of our best travel experiences. Ruby and Raymond have put meticulous thought and detail into their guest house and it is quite lovely and comfortable. Raymond is a fabulous breakfast cook and we loved the homemade treats in our room, the French coffee press (no instant Nescafe here) and the wee dram of whisky. A quick walk to town or restaurants (we has a great dinner at Mac Innes) or hikes. We rented bikes from Bothy Bikes-10 minute walk away We would definitely stay here again. Quiet.

United Kingdomleaving it! we have had the good fortunate to travel well and across the world, and in the most beautiful hotels, for us, the experience at Sutherlands is without doubt up there with anything we have experience elsewhere. so it made it very hard to leave and we didn’t like that.
it’s a property to which we have returned several times. they say God is in the details, and you experience the deep respect they have for getting all the particulars correct. Keen aesthetic sense, warm, friendly, hosts - incredible choice of breakfasts (take the smoothies!), and that’s all before taking into its incomparable surroundings. looking out over the mountains whilst having breakfast, then exploring those mountains. Sutherlands sets you up to have the best possible time.

ItalyBeing out and about in the Cairngorms meant not being able to make the most of the room's huge bathtub! A missed opportunity
The greeting by Ruby we had on arrival - so welcoming. The rooms were more like penthouse suites. Very spacious, beyond what photos online would suggest. Gorgeous furnishings and decor. Delicious and vast breakfast options. Very comfy beds. Wonderfully equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, treats..... and Whisky. Plentiful parking.

United StatesA wonderful stay at a place with unmatched hospitality and comfort. A beautiful new house, a large suite with attached sitting room and super-large bedroom, with great views of the Cairngorms, very stylish furnishings and decor throughout the house. Magnificent breakfast every day with tons of great choices. Hosts are super-welcoming and helpful in every way imaginable. Nice easy parking in the courtyard in front of the house. House is just a few hundred yards off the main road on a very quiet street, lovely place to walk around and see birds in the morning; or can hike up Creag Bheag for superb views. Also good location for the Ruthven Barracks, Insh Marshes for birds, or access to Aviemore and nearby Munros. Just a perfect paradise of a place I can only hope I will return to.
