Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe flat was illegally rented. It is a fraud. The lady who came to hand us the key was apparently a mother of the person who rented it to us through booking.com. She did not speak English and did not come up to open the door, only gave my daughter a number. The door to the flat did not lock at all. Once inside the door to the bedroom locked trapping us inside. The smoke detector was absent, no working ceiling light and the small lamp by the bed had an electrical problem. Luckily one of us had a phone and we were able to call 999. The fire brigade was called to extricate us from the apartment. They had to break security chain on the door to the apartment. The manger of the bldg was shocked that we were even there and told us that the apartment was being rented illegally. They are working now to reclaim the apartment. We contacted booking.com regarding this fiasco and our ruined vacation. We received no help at all when we called customer service either. We tried to submit the evidence requested within the time frame specified by booking.com and were unable to as the link to do so was disabled. Your company has abysmal customer service.
We did not stay at the flat at all as it was illegally rrented.

United KingdomFlat was very basic. Bed extremely small and uncomfortable. No basic provisions (e.g., hand soap) available. Parking is not free as described. We followed hosts instructions, confirmed it was free and have subsequently received over £300 worth of parking tickets. Host has been no help in trying to sort this

United KingdomWhen I made my reservation, both my Booking.com confirmation and a message from the property's landlord assured me that parking was free. I felt reassured by this information and proceeded accordingly. During my stay, I received a parking charge notice (PCN) for each day of my stay in the hotel for failing to display a valid parking permit. I attempted to resolve the matter through the property's management, but they were unresponsive.

United KingdomSo many small things could have made this a much, much better experience for our three night/four day stay. It was very spartan, balcony was bare with no furniture, uncomfortable sofa and inner-spring mattress. No hand towels or rubber bathmat for slippery shower or bathmat when getting out. No hand soap even or a waste paper bin. Half a roll of loo paper and no more to be found. I messaged to ask where the washing machine and dryer were. They were in the locked hall cupboard where I found more loo rolls and an extra towel I used for a bath mat. Dryer was chock full of damp linen which had been there for three days. I assumed this was the cleaners cupboard. Ask for the code. Who knows why it was locked if it’s for guest use. Kitchen lacked a bottle opener, corkscrew, can opener and had one blunt chopping knife only. Dishwasher had no tablets. No tea towels to be found. Three glasses (although it can house four guests) and three kitchen chairs. Bedroom pillows had no protectors and one had blood stains and rips. One pillow case had old blood stains on it. Lucky we bought our own pillows. Wardrobe doors got stuck, lack of a bin or tall boy and a bare bulb from ceiling that stayed on low when turned off at night. Wi-if was dodgy and the call/intercom thing near the front door wasn’t working. I was locked out as my husband was upstairs with the key and fob. I couldn’t call the apartment for him to let me in. All the negatives are a shame as this place has the potential to be really great. I wouldn’t return. I’d rather a smaller place that actually cared for guest comfort. Ok for one night only.
Very spacious and in a great location. Apartment was in a modern and secure building. Bathroom towels were excellent. Good heating/cooling. Netflix when the wi-fi worked.
