Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI throughly enjoyed my stay in Wells, and at St Etheldreda's Cottage which was perfect for my requirements. The cottage was tucked away in a very quiet and safe enclosed courtyard, with a small garden in front. An easy few minutes walk from the high street, with plenty of good shops, cafes and restaurants. The magnificent Cathedral is a must visit. I enjoyed the Evensong service which was very calming. A memorable experience listening to the choristers in such a historic and acoustic setting. The excellent Full Moon Pub provides a good place for roadside parking near the cottage. Once finding a space I left my car there for the duration of my stay. Thanks to Helen my host for looking after my booking and arrangements. Highly recommend place to stay in Wells. Tony.

United KingdomJust be aware of parking in Wells. There are restrictions that need to be navigated but these are not insurmountable. There are a number of car parks within walking distance and our use of the parking app made extending the time a doddle and all from the comfort of the cottage.
Beautifully renovated cottage property located in the centre of a historic and beautiful city. The hosts thoughtful and caring renovation is matched by their diligence and detail in ensuring our trip went without a hitch and that we made most of our stay.

United KingdomParking was a bit of an issue but we managed. A bit more space at the end of the bed would have been nice but these are very small things. We loved the stay.
The location was perfect. The house and decor were lovely. Information provided by the owners was excellent and very helpful. Wells is great place to visit with plenty to see in the local area.

United KingdomEverything. Bijou. Beautifully styled, practically equipped, a pretty little garden with bench/bistro table and chairs for sunny days. The whole property was spotlessly clean, a perfect base for a visit to Wells just a few minute’s walk away to the Cathedral and numerous cafes and restaurants. If you walk along the adjacent road, Silver Street, and you come out at the Bishop’s Moat, a lovely walk. Helen & Mark provided so much information on what to do and where to go - very helpful hosts.

United KingdomThe only slight inconvenience was parking. It wasn't too bad finding on street parking in February but could be a problem in the height of the tourist season!
The cottage was in a very peaceful close. We were unaware of any noise from neighbours. It was very well maintained and equipped and ideal for exploring Wells. We didn't meet the owners but they kept us very well informed and sent several friendly messages!

United KingdomCan’t criticise anything.
Beautiful cottage which is very well appointed. All appliances and untensils required for a self catering break were provided by Mark and Helen. The cottage was impeccably clean and very tidy. It’s location is central to all that Wells has to offer whether it be tourist attractions or hostelries and restaurants (of which Wells has many). Helen was a superb hostess who sent us several mails containing information to make our stay go without a hitch, a lovely touch was a beautiful vase of fresh flowers awaiting us along with some useful and very accommodating supplies!!

The cottage was in an excellent location in Wells and just a few minutes walk from all the main attractions. It was immaculately clean , beautifully presented and had everything you could possibly need for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. We loved and appreciated all the personal touches which gave the cottage such character. It was extremely quiet and we both slept so well on beautiful white cotton bed linen and very comfortable pillows. Thank you Helen and Mark for the fresh flowers, coffee, tea, milk and lavender shortbread which were waiting for us when we arrived.
