Some construction outside woke us at about 7.30 this morning,

No charging sockets. Poor restaurant service. Outdated bathroom with poorly sited PIR so that the light went off if door left open.

Great location overlooking the river. Spacious room. Restaurant on site. Easy parking. Very efficient neighbouring dining at 'the stables'.

Good sized bathroom which could have accommodated a walk in shower which we would have preferred rather than an shower over the bath.

Staff very helpful ,especially when we requested a first floor room as there isn't a lift. Food for both breakfast and evening meal was excellent and location is second to none!

Strange system of lighting in the bathroom. It goes off if there is not discernible movement for about 30 seconds, therefore when showering or using the loo, the light goes off. Quite disconcerting.

Only downside to the room we stayed in, was it was on the corner of the building & being a Saturday night, the bar next door had a live singer on, which if you wanted to stay up was great, but when you were tired & wanted an early night (on a warm night & wanted to the windows open) it was very loud. (although he did play some good tunes). Some aspects of the hotel are dated, with creaky & sloping floors, but it all adds to the character of an old building & is definitely fun after a few drinks lol.

Great location, central to everything & we got a complimentary upgrade to a lovely room with a four poster bed, which overlooked the woodlands at the front. In all honesty, the staff we encountered made the stay even better. Jenny on reception & Jordan who waited on, went above & beyond and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were genuinely the most honest/friendly people, who made you feel comfortable & your stay even more enjoyable. You get complimentary parking at the rear of the building with your stay, which is great & the room, was clean, tidy & spacious & the food was excellent.

Check in assistant quite rude on arrival. She looked flustered and my attempt to be sympathetic was met with a snappy rude response. I let that go as she did seem overbusy but I didn't feel welcome on that first impression. Shower did not work but was dealt with quickly. The plumber even came into the breakfast room to confirm the repair. Room was very hot even with the window open. We felt that air conditioning was needed. Room was not cleaned and tea and coffee not replenished after the first night.

Lovely building, good food and staff mostly very polite and helpful. Use of Leisure suite in sister hotel very good but we didn't know before arrival so were not prepared and did not use. Everything nice and clean.

We had to book 2 rooms as the doubles had max 2 occupancy but our young son could have easily bunked in with us for the one night we were there as the beds were huge!

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable. Our booking detail stated it may be a little noisy due to the location over the pub but we weren’t kept awake at all, even with the windows open. Lovely food in the restaurant and breakfast was nice. Great location.
