An excellent 60th anniversary in a clean, comfortable, friendly hotel - we'll be back !
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple
    • Superior Double Room
    • Stayed 3 nights

    1. The stairs! We were in room 32 which was the furthest room from reception & the dining room - even the corridors had steps up & down ! 2. The bar only had 1 single malt whisky & that was not replenished when it ran out on the 1st night .

Although we have stayed in Sidmouth several times ,this time on the occasion of our 60th wedding anniversary, we decided to go for a smaller, interesting looking hotel. We could not have chosen better than The Royal Glen. Beautifully situated just back from the sea front, own carpark , friendly staff, & excellent food. Gabby was wonderful in the dining room & together with Bogdan made marvellous hosts.Breakfast was good with a good choice(the kippers were wonderful). Dinner (which we had on 2 nights) was excellent. Our room was clean & comfortable with a nice en-suite with a lovely powerful shower.

    Elegant and welcoming traditional hotel.

Early 10am check-out, unnecessary for peace of mind, though no one complained when we checked out 20 minutes late.

Lovely, bright bedroom with a very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Elegant public rooms, nice gardens with sea view, and nice to have an early morning dip in the indoor pool. Staff were friendly. Great position within steps of seafront but away from crowds. Easy parking. Good internet.

It was quite a small room (26?) but nice outlook and very comfortable.

We appreciated that everything was clean and functioned well. Nothing was broken or not working. The pool is small but good if you want an early dip. Staff were helpful and very well mannered and caring.

The breakfast was ok but I would have preferred more choice as in being able to choose my own yoghurt without having to order it specially.I would also have liked pastries.

Very friendly staff, great location. Loved the pool.

Felt could have been a little more selection for buffett breakfast no bananas or yoghurt just would have liked option ofyoghurt with my cereal rather than milk but otgerwise all good.

Lovely hotel lots of character, we enjoyed the outside patio area and lounge loved the location of our room and view. Staff very helpful lovely pool and my partner enjoyed Gym but 1 was little disappointed no hand weights to suit me standard size weights appeared to be missing. had little issue with shower getting hot. We also were sure we requested the option to include breakfast but arrived to be told not included. It would appear from hotel this has happened with other booking. Com users so we will be taking this up with Booking.com. Otherwise really enjoyed our stay.

Decor was a little tired, could do with a lick of paint, but didn't spend much time there. The Towels! OK, if you were a child or very small and skinny, nice big bath sheets would be perfect!

The location was good. There was free parking, which is always a bonus. The staff were friendly and professional. Our room was large, clean and had good facilities. The swimming pool looked good but didn't use it. Food is also available but didn't avail ourselves.

    Choice of room

The location of the hotel is 5 mins walk for the promenade at Sidmouth and the spectacular views of the sea and red cliffs to east and west of the town . The hotel is really quaint and traditional with lovely white exterior and Devon Gothic windows . The grounds are lovely too and well kept . The food in the restaurant is really good - Sunday night dinner is splendid with Sunday roast done to perfection . Breakfast is delicious with fresh cooked options - haddock and bubble and squeak on offer . Afternoon tea too and a well stocked bar - all staff helpful and friendly . What more could you want ?the Royal Glen is a real gem in Sidmouth .

Great location, the beachfront a short walk away and the town Centre a little farther. A hotel with old character and good restaurant. Most helpful and friendly staff.

Although the room was beautifully clean, well appointed and comfortable, it was rather cold in the evenings. We didn't turn the radiator on, because the wires for the television were across it, and it might have damaged them.

Staff were all lovely, friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food was very good. Location to central Sidmouth excellent. The hotel was clean and well appointed, and of historical interest.

The staff were excellent. Our room was one of the smaller rooms (I booked late and that was all there was left) but my wife saw some larger rooms which looked very nice. I have an EV and was able to charge using a granny charger.

We booked 2 rooms for the same price. One was spacious with in keeping furniture, a bath and pleasant view of gardens. The other was poky with melamine furniture and a view of the car park. I anticipate breakfast is better value when booked with the room. Booking.com didn’t give us the option to book breakfast so we ordered when got there. The pricing system is confusing and quickly racks up if you’re not attention.

Beautiful grade 2 listed building. One of the rooms was lovely. Pancakes and cooked breakfast options were very tasty
