Excellent location in the village, and a small car park at the side was a bonus. We enjoyed all the food we had, lovely pizza for lunch, the food at dinner and breakfast was all freshly cooked and very tasty.

No plugs near the dressing table for hairdryer ( no hair dryer provided glad I took my own ) etc . Lead not long enough to reach the mirror from where the sockets were at the side of the kettle .

The big problem for the Red Lion, and the village in general, is that there is very (and I mean VERY) limited car parking. where this impacts the Red Lion, is that they do not reserve car parking for their guests. To be charged £18.00 for an overnight stay, on top of the accommodation cost is asking too much. We were booked in for a two night stay. We were visiting our daughter and her family who were in a lodge out of the village, Fortunately, it was only about 3 quarters of a mile out of town, so we left the car there, and walked back to the Red Lion. Risky, at 11.00pm on unlit country lanes!!

    Breakfast and location were fine

Parking was very limited and we ended up having to pay to park overnight in the main carpark. Also there were musicians playing both friday and saturday night which was very loud in the bedrooms. It would have been nice to know beforehand. It did however say that there may be noise from the kitchens below but we didnt hear that.

Breakfast choice was very good and delicious. We also had a meal from the regular menu and the sunday roast which were both excellent. The location was good for walking to Hill Top and Wray Castle, both National Trust.

A good, historic property in a beautiful village. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome. If Hawkshead was easier to get to by public transport, we'd be back within weeks.
