The restaurant gets busy with non-guests so it's necessary to book, which isn't always easy for last minute stays and there was some miscommunication between different staff on from one day to the next. Other than that - it's a lovely place to stay.

Lovely old pub in the centre of Hawkshead village, perfect base for numerous walks around a beautiful area. Rooms are well designed with quality amenities, and comfortable beds. The restaurant offers good food and a decent range of beers in the character pub. Breakfast is excellent.

    There wasn’t anything to dislike.

The room was beautifully clean and spacious. The staff were all friendly and professional and, despite being extremely busy, they were friendly and chatty. We had dinner and breakfast there and both were delicious.

I really had to push hard to have anything bad to say. But, the bed was two singles pushed together. It's not even close to a deal breaker, and I appreciate that the hotel probably wants the flexibility of offering it as a twin room... I think the room deserves a proper king bed.

The staff were friendly, and helpful. In fact, they went above and beyond when we came down late for breakfast and fixed us up a wonderful breakfast anyway. The room was lovely. It was spotless, and the modern clean bathroom was great. You would think that the large window might make you feel a little conscious but I felt like we had all the privacy we needed, and it was lovely to turn down the lights and just enjoy the view. My only regret is that we didn't stay another night. The location was fantastic being so close to Scafell Pike and Helvellyn. I will definitely be staying here again. The village was beautiful and had so much more to offer than I expected.

52 years of marriage since we honeymooned in Hawkshead was brilliant despite minor issues.

There were three issues that arose which were we staying longer could have been irritating. 1) The lack of a mirror in the bathroom for use while shaving would have been a problem as I prefer to be clean shaven. I understand that a new mirror had arrived the day of our departure. 2) The fact that the central heating could not be used despite the best efforts of the staff the provision of an electric heater solved the problem. 3) Fortunately, despite not having had professional experience of plumbing, I have gleaned enough knowledge over the years regarding the function of a toilet cistern. The handle of the cistern was excessively slack upon our arrival which resulted in a complete failure in the middle of our first night. Fortunately I was able to loosen the retaining screw in order to remove the cistern lid to find that the retaining nut securing the handle had stripped its thread, allowing the wire connecting arm to fall into the tank. I tightened the stripped nut by hand and replaced the wire link allowing the toilet to flush.

Everything fulfilled our requirements during our short break

The only downside was that the room we booked was listed as a superior double, but it turned out to be quite a small bed! Next time, I'll be sure to book a room with a king-size bed. Additionally, the shower could use a thorough cleaning with bleach in all the nooks and crannies, and the hot water supply was inconsistent in the morning.

A Charming pub. The dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the service provided by the staff was excellent.

We had to question the bill which was changed and then had to question it again as the deposit we paid was not taken off. No apologies were given, had we not noticed we would have over paid.

The size of the room was good and the location perfect for what we wanted. Good food in the evening and a great choice of breakfast with quality products.

There should’ve been some drawers in the bedroom. There was plenty of room for them and would’ve made more counter top space. We had to put lots of things on the floor. We did one night. For a few, definitely some drawers ! Although not a big deal !

Nice size and well appointed room. Quality feel of carpets, decor and furnishings. Fluffy white towels. Super fresh bedding. Best English breakfast for ages. All hot and well presented. Too many hotels have adopted the “help yourself style” but it was served to s at the table as it should be. Fried egg perfect also the sausage and bacon. Button mushrooms and beans. Yummy! Definitely stay again. We’ve stayed in loads of “above pub” rooms and this one was probably the best we’ve found.

the bed was two singles togehter so a bit of a split kept us apart and not long enough for 6'1" husband.

the style and location were fabulous, shower was strong and hot, most comfortable bed for me i have had in the UK so far (5'3") breakfast good. Room was good value we thought terrific location with another pub next door, restaurants and cafes and bars, plus a small co-op across the road. nice shops to browse in too

Nothing major - we didn't know that we could have had a parking permit to avoid paying for parking but other than that, no complaints!

A beautiful, modern room in a gorgeous small town. Loved the decor. The breakfast was amazing - excellent value for money! Both my husband and I were blown away by how well maintained the lovely old building was. The pub was also excellent.
