For a 4-star hotel, I was expecting a bit more from the breakfast. There wasn’t a buffet option, it seemed somewhat limited compared to the overall quality of the hotel.

We loved the old-world charm of this beautiful property, peacefull and full and history. Our room was very spacious, as was the bathroom, offering great comfort. The highlight was the snug bar, where we had an intimate dinner in a warm and cozy atmosphere. The food was delicious!!

The breakfast wasn’t worth the money at all, not good portions for £25, I’ve had much better breakfast at a premier inn. For example one tiny bit of butter for four pieces of bread, one sausage and I would have expected stornoway black pudding at such an establishment but it wasn’t and I didn’t think it was good quality.

Sometimes was hard to find a staff member to order drinks or food during the day, but no problems at all once someone could be found.

The mattress needs replacing soon but we still slept well. We ate dinner on site one night and although the food tasted good, the portion sizes were small (and therefore we considered the meal pricey). There were a lot of steps/levels to get to the first floor room (although we managed well).

Breakfast was relaxed and plentiful. The scenery is stunning, rural and beautiful. The building is old and quaint. Our room was huge and clean. The bed was big. There is coffee and tea-making facilities in the room. There were a couple of complimentary bottles of water. The sofa in the room was really comfortable to sit in. We needed some ice and it was promptly delivered to us. The staff are friendly.

The bedroom could have been a little bit warmer. The heater indicated it was on but not much heat given off.

Maintenance of the property is in real bad shape, I was in room 4 and mattress in the room so extremely bad and uncomfortable to sleep on, mattress has lived it life. General condition of public areas is also questionable and need a bit of repair especially in the lounge where celing paint is coming out. Cleanliness is also a factor they should put there focus on, my room was dusty.

The hotel facilities were fine, but maybe not quite at the level you might expect for a 4* hotel.

Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, accommodating and efficient - hats all to the management for obviously running a great team that really understands customer service.

Would have stayed for breakfast but we only have continental so set price of £50 for the two of us felt far too expensive - but we found an M&S food outlet at a nearby garage and had a tub of granola, prepared fruit, yoghurt and coffees for a quarter of the price!

Moved to lovely room as in the first no internet connection possible; we had stayed 25 years ago for friends' wedding and had promised ourselves a return visit! Nice evening meal and extremely helpful, efficient staff

Everything was great, my 15+ years dog not so much got used to lifts or ground floor rooms/apartments. But seriously she loved the extensive grounds.

The stairs from the ground to first floor have very short treads due to the curved layout of the staircase. This makes it necessary to take extra care when using.

The room was large, well furnished and comfortable. Dinner menu provided a good choice, with each course very well presented and the food was delicious. Breakfast provided a wide choice of cold and hot food which was very tasty and well presented. The staff taking orders for breakfast and dinner were very friendly and attentive. Jill, on Reception at our arrival, who also served us coffee in the afternoon and then Pre-Dinner drinks and then supervised and was hands on during Dinner, was superb. She is a first class employee and ambassador of the hotel and we hope the Macdonald Management recognises the value she brings.
