The new part is ugly/average and seriously desperately over priced for what you get. The room descriptions don’t make the distinction clear.

The old part is truly lovely, historic, perfectly maintained.

    Nothing really.

Room was a character room and yes it had loads of character. It had been refurbished excellently and was warm and quiet - loved it. Staff were excellent, helpful, smart and polite. Loved the whole experience.

Breakfast (included, otherwise £25pp) was good in parts - excellent yoghurt and fruit, disappointing hot course with firm poached eggs and salty smoked bacon; nice coffee though.

Stayed overnight for an offsite wedding, so didn't really get full use of the Hotel. Room was very comfortable, with good amenities and a great shower. Also nice to have a fan, if only for white noise, though it was quiet anyway. Bright, dramatic furnishings throughout.

The stay was during an exceptional Summer heatwave and, while the building is old and staff provided fans, an investment of portable air conditioning units would have made the rooms (particularly on upper floors) more bearable.

The hotel is full of charm and some notable history. Staff are pleasant and seem to go above and beyond for their guests. The location of the stay was in easy access of Chippenham, Cirencester and Bath; these could all be accessed by road or public transport. There are lovely local walks and some fabulous local shops and public houses to peruse.

There was a coffee maker provided but no coffee and the selection of teas other than english breakfast was a little bizarre. Raspberry and lemonade?

Fantastic old building - lovely room. Ideally located for us to walk to from Womad festival on Sunday night.
