Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomOnly thing is the bathroom a bit small with only a tiny sink on top of the toilet cistern which found really awkward/unhygienic to use if just want quick wash/clean teeth.
Amazing hostel in a great location, loved the vibe. Kitchen area like a professional set up with more than everything you need. Staff and manager very helpful and friendly. Super clean and modern

United KingdomThe arrival system is quite grumpy - if you've had a long journey you're technically not allowed to enter the property until 4pm. This is really uncommon in hostels / hotels and doesn't match the vibe of the hostel. I think if you have a booking (and can show you have) as a soft welcome you should at least be able to drop your stuff off so you can go out and enjoy Ilfracombe. Especially if you've had a few muddy and wet days on the SWCP.
In 15 years of backpacking this is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. A great rest day on the South West Coast Path and one of only a few value for money hostels - if only there were more like this in Bude etc.

Richard at reception was very helpful. The kitchen was amazingly well-stocked, clean and impressively organised. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. I would have liked to stay more than one night. I would definitely recommend.

United KingdomIt was right next to a church that rang its bells every hour throughout the whole night we didn’t sleep either night - don’t understand why a church would disrupt everyone’s sleep such a shame

United KingdomLocation can be noisy in the late evening due to nearby pubs and in the morning due to seagulls!
Alex at reception was super friendly and helpful. Any small problems were dealt with immediately and with great good humour. Check-in arrangements out of hours were excellent. Some rooms have en-suite but most do not - this is as expected in a hostel. Cleanliness was outstanding. Common areas included a lovely lounge and well-equipped kitchen with a great system for re-using left-overs from other guests and regular clear-out of the fridge. The location is superb - right near the Quay if you are arriving/leaving on the Lundy ferry. Towel hire available for £2 each, which was very welcome for those of us travelling light. No problem leaving bags for storage if necessary during the day of departure. The owners have recently invested in upgrading the hostel and it really shows.

United KingdomShower temperature was very temperamental and was like a campsite shower where you press a button every couple of minutes to turn it on again. Also the building isn't very soundproof so you can hear people going up and down the stairs or any particularly loud conversations in the building, as well as all the noise outside. However I found building sounds were between 7.30/8am to around 9pm. Personally didn't bother me too much and I just used ear plugs over night.
Amazing room and guy on the desk was lovely. I felt very safe and secure with the codes to access building and rooms.
