Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI think if I was picky it be that there wasn't a bit more light into the bed area, the window in that end faces the hosts property so we kept the curtain drawn all the time for privacy. Uts impractical to ask, but a sky light or extra window would be good.
It was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. There were extra cakes and biscuits everything to make a cup of tee, coffee and even a cafeteria. The breakfast items laid on were plentiful and of a high quality. We had netflix, too. The beautiful garden and the water feature was very relaxing.

United KingdomThe weather! We would have loved more sunny evenings to enjoy that fantastic garden.
The Smithy is a short drive from Chester, ideal for visiting the city or for exploring north Wales. Very quiet location and friendly hosts. The cottage itself is small but felt very spacious, and contained everythign we needed for a relaxing week's stay. The breakfast was the ingredients for a week's worth of breakfasts - everything we needed for a full English, toast, cereal. Much more relaxing than having to attend a set breakfast time, and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I loved the luxury touches, too - bathrobes, lovely toiletries and a wonderful garden with a hammock, BBQ and seating area for our use.

United KingdomThere wasn’t much I didn’t like to be honest, it’s small and intimate but I didn’t mind that. The pillows were a little uncomfortable, but the bed was comfortable.
From the moment we arrived we had a very warm welcome. The whole place was stocked with everything you could imagine, so if you’re staying for a weekend you’ll have enough to have breakfast there for the duration. This was a very nice touch not gonna lie. Also the place was spotless, but you do have some friends whilst there (spiders) so if you don’t mind sharing you’ll be fine 😅

United KingdomThe only thing we would have cha ged would have been a firmer mattress and thinner duvet - but those are personal preferences and not meant in any way to detract from the overall experience which was superb.
Lovely private space (separate building to main house) with so many well thought out extras provided.

United KingdomThere’s nothing I didn’t like about it
The garden is beautiful and I enjoyed sitting at the top for my cuppas and looking at the view. It’s a very relaxing place to stay, and it’s lovely to look outside the patio doors to see the lovely water feature. We’ve booked again for feb, and I’d absolutely love to see the garden in spring/summer, so we will definitely be booking for that season too! The bread left was delicious!! Lovely place to stay! The cottage was beautiful and clean, and I can’t wait to stay again! Thank you :)

United KingdomNothing to dislike. We thought No. 1 The Smithy is a great space, particularly for a couple, to stay in.
No. 1 The Smithy is an excellent property to stay in and comes with the use of a large garden space. The hosts go above and beyond to make you comfortable and provide additional supplies, such as breakfast, toiletries, and the kitchen is stocked with items such as cooking oil, kitchen roll, tin foil, things which you would normally have to bring or buy yourself. Communication before and during our stay was brilliant and we were automatically given local information to enhance our visit. We were very impressed and have never experienced such attention to detail anywhere else we have stayed.

United KingdomNothing, Everything was perfect.
The cottage is in an ideal location with easy links to Chester, Wales, and Liverpool. There are plenty of restaurants, pubs, and cafes in the area. The cottage is spacious and very clean, with lots of extra touches and luxuries. Everything is furnished to a very high standard. The Great hosts provided us with everything we needed for a relaxing stay, including high quality ingrediants for full English breakfasts, cereals, chocolate biscuits, and more. The large, beautiful private garden has amazing views of the Welsh mountains, several seating areas, hammock, and bbq.
