Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing really.
Everything was great. The house was very well presented, in a good convenient location and is highly recommended. There were some very nice touches, with little extras in the kitchen on arrival. All in all a first class stay.

United KingdomThe only niggle was the lack of notes or instructions on, for example, which bin to use: what to do with recycling vs refuse. The only reason I knew to separate glass is because I have spent a lot of time in Kelso with my family who have a place there. If I were a genuine tourist I wouldn’t know. Some hand soap in the bathroom upstairs would also have been useful (there was some in the downstairs cloakroom). Also, despite a very modern washing machine in situ there was no clothes airer to hang them up to dry on. However when I contacted the owner she very quickly dropped one by. Same for extra bin bags. As I say - just small niggles.
Its location is perfect for Kelso town, shops, pubs and restaurants. It’s obviously been renovated recently to a tasteful and high standard.

United KingdomThere is nothing we did not like in No 1 The Turret 🙂
This three storey house is quite superb. It was our 2nd visit here, and we will certainly return when we can. Very high quality throughout and extremely well appointed. Clean, light, airy and spacious. Thoughtful touches in every room (like the new chair in the lounge Nikki. 😊 ) making The Turret a real 5 star home from home property. Kelso Border Retreats have clearly invested heavily in this site, but to be honest, we have stayed in a few of their properties now, and they are all superb. Fantastic 'Festive' welcome pack and lovely Christmas Tree provided by charming and helpful host, Nikki, along with a quite beautiful front door wreath...!! There were only 2 of us, but The Turret sleeps up to 6 people very comfortably. Brilliant WiFi, superb smart TV and stunning Sonos sound system in kitchen..!! Ample off road parking outside front door, and the house is centrally located for every amenity Kelso has to offer. Only a 2 or 3 minute stroll to Kelso Town Square. Safe-key entry system for simple straight forward access upon arrival. All round fantastic house which one could quite easily live in permanently... If you choose to stay here, you will not be disappointed... We will be back, soon we hope.. 🤞

United KingdomIt is not the easiest place to be self catering. The food preparation area is not very big. It could do with a few simple things like an oven glove and a dustpan and brush. There is also no recycling bin outside.
Very clean and comfortable property. An excellent location in the town.

The Turret was a sudden booking g change by Booking.com, from a property in Melrose, which we hD booked a while back and which was suddenly cancelled by Booking at the twelth hour- to rehpuse us in Kelso at The Turret. This proved well located, beautifully furnished, the beds were fresh and utterly comfortable. Stylish indeed! We went to Melrose and saw that our original accommodation was occupied. And we were glad they double booked us and sent us to Kelso.

United KingdomAppliance instruction books would be useful. Also should have warned that the tap in the bathroom was the wrong way round. More bins and mirrors would have been useful for a cottage that could sleep 6. Also the number of toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets was not sufficient. When on holiday you do not want to have to shop for household basics.
Good central location fof touring the area. Access to numerous eating locations and shops.

United KingdomOne small suggestion. A non slip bath mat and a safety grab rail in the shower would be an added improvement. And an arm chair would improve the seating in the sitting room.
It was very well equipped and furnished. We were given a very varied and good welcome pack. The heating and electricity were included.

United KingdomThere was nothing we did not like.
We liked absolutely everything in this hosted accommodation. Key Safe system worked to perfection. We stayed over Christmas 2022 and the place was quite fabulous. Spacious, light, airy, and finished to a 5 star spec. and beyond. "Sonos" speaker system in kitchen was an absolute revelation.... I love music again...!!! Very nice 'quality' extra. Smart TV with NETFLIX and Amazon PRIME ready to go. Seamless... Marvelous (real) beautifully decorated Christmas Tree. Rather exquisite Christmas welcome basket, verging on a 'Hamper'.. In a word...., SUPERB.. Location wise, this property is perfectly located for every amenity and facility in the lovely Scottish Borders Town of Kelso. Not too far from anything, but still beautifully quiet in it's own way. And free parking for up to 2 vehicles.. Spot on... 🙂 We would have stayed longer if it had been possible. Absolutely without question, we will go back to No 1 The Turret, but if dates can't work, we will simply try and and choose one of Kelso Border Retreats other options. Rumour has it another 'New addition' to the KBR portfolio (in the middle of Kelso) will become available to visit soon... We cannot wait. The host, Nikki really is a credit to this particular sector of the UK self catering holiday market. Kelso Border Retreats really DO KNOW what they are doing. We have now used 3 of their properties and all were EXCEPTIONAL... End of..

United KingdomBeing in our 60s we did find the furniture a little uncomfortable... especially the setee in the lounge.. but no doubt younger people might find it more suitable. Climbing 28 stairs was also quite difficult.. again younger people would not have a problem. Unfortunately on return we were accused of having smashed a lamp.. which was upsetting as being responsible people we would of owned up to this if we had.... this did not happen. Also on arrival the gas had been left on the cooker.. maybe a cleaner had knocked it.. a simple mistake but the smell was rather unpleasant. This was on arrival and we hadn't used the cooker.
Really lovely 3 storey town house.. very clean.. beautiful decor.. very modern.. very near to the beautiful town centre of Kelso. Wonderful welcome pack very much appreciated...

United KingdomLimited storage facilities in the bedrooms on the upper floor. Hanging wardrobe space outside but difficult to store clothing in the drawers of the bedside cabinets. Nowhere effectively to hang bath towels to dry. Rack in the bathroom to small to do that.only way to turn the lights out in the bedroom was by getting out of bed (unless I missed something!)shower in bathroom not really hot enough for my liking but certainly not cold or anything like that. I'm sure most people would have found it adequate.Trying to be constructive not critical. We had a perfectly good stay.
