Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe beds a little too soft for my taste, this did not mar the experience though and of course this is just personal preference and it would be impossible to cater for all with this. It also not stop me booking again
Wonderful property, everything pristine, Host was friendly welcoming and accommodating. Location brilliant to explore all of York and North Yorkshire.

United KingdomThere wasn’t anything not to like, you can tell the owners have put a lot of effort into making the cottage a home from home. The only thing that would make it perfect would be blackout blinds/curtains but that’s just a personal preference.
The property has the perfect layout for us, a double on suite downstairs for my mother and a double and a twin upstairs for myself and my two daughters. The cottage was spotlessly clean, not a mark anywhere. The kitchen was really well equipped, lots of mugs and dishes, baking trays, ovenware etc. there were eggs, milk and butter in the fridge, ice in the freezer, tea, coffee and sugar, salt, pepper, oil etc. There was a cupboard filled with cleaning supplies and washing detergent/ dishwasher tablets. The bathrooms had hand soap, shampoo and shower gel. There was also board games and stationery. The area is lovely and quiet and a short drive to a park and ride that takes you into York. We like to have movie nights and the sofa was easily big enough for four of us to spread out and watch Netflix.

United KingdomThis property is amazing! It is spotlessly clean, exceptionally maintained and very homely. The WiFi is also excellent. Jayne was the perfect host. The fresh eggs, milk, butter and sweet treats that were left for us were much appreciated after a long journey. She was very responsive and more than happy to help with anything we needed. She also recommended a lovely play park nearby which the kids loved. Overall it's the perfect place to stay and ideal for families.

United KingdomNothing, simply superb!
We had an amazing stay in Mistletoe Cottage, a lovely warm welcome from Jayne on arrival, and an exceptionally clean and well appointed cottage. We had everything we needed and when we had a small issue with the shower Eddie came and sorted it out quickly with no hassle. Superb communication throughout, couldn't ask for anything more! Loved the welcome pack, a really lovely and thoughtful touch.

United KingdomNo complaints.
Communication from start to finish was brilliant. My family and I met Jayne at the property, where she handed us the keys, and she met us with a smile. She told us the basics of the property, and because it was cold at that time, the house was well heated. As an addition, we got bread, eggs, milk, butter, and chocolate covered teacakes, which I thought was a nice touch (the bread was one of our favourite types 😊). When we had an issue with the heating, I contacted Jane via message, and quickly, her husband came over to sort it out and show us what to do. I liked the fact that the hosts were nearby if needed. If you are looking for a lovely break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this beautiful cottage would be the place for you and your family. It was very homey, warming, welcoming, and very relaxing...a home away from home!! My family and I would definitely like to stay here again, especially in the spring or summertime, so we can take advantage of outside. 😀

United KingdomNot much!!! We were 2 families- grandparents and children / grandchildren and the layout was perfect/ the grandparents had the downstairs en suite bedroom while the younger generation had the upstairs with 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
It was self catering but we received a very comprehensive welcome pack -much more than we have ever experienced in our previous holiday rentals. The cottage had everything you might want- it was like walking into someone’s home and taking over. The kitchen had all you might need by way of utensils and equipment. The garden looked wonderful and our only regret was that we were there in October and not during the summer.

United KingdomNothing it was 10/10!!! however if you really want extra bits the only thing I have is making the clothes drier a plug in air dryer one. As the property has under floor heating clothes take longer to dry and we did a couple of washes the day before we left and struggled to dry them in time. In no way is this your issue but the fact that’s probably the only thing I can think of to improve our stay highlight how impressive it is.
Very comfortable and perfect for a family weekend away in York. Had everything needed, very much a home from home. It’s fair to say my wife has OCD on cleaning and rarely relaxes when we rent or stay away because of it. She was amazed and the level of cleaning in every inch of the property and if you knew how many issues this has caused in the past that is literally the best compliment I could ever write. Booklets were all handy, lovely set up
