Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe receptionist booking us in was poor..indifferent, disinterested and unhelpful. He scribbled the location of our room on a map and dismissed us! The rooms are difficult to find and a long way from the main building …in our case 2 lifts and stairs were involved. Food and drink service were average. They forgot to put 2 drinks on our food bill and called our room after we had gone to bed and were asleep to ask us to come back down and pay when it could have been done on check out in the morning!
Comfortable beds and spacious room. Location close to the airport which is what we were looking for. The old building is attractive and plenty of parking.

United KingdomI didn’t like that the rooms are not situated in the original building but built in a separate building a-joined to the period building. I went with my elderly mother and the rooms were so far away from reception / restaurants with lots of up and down flights of stairs / lifts. It seemed extremely busy with lots of guests, we were hoping for a quieter experience but because the hotel has so many bedrooms I guess that offers more people to be able to stay. The bathroom smelt of damp sadly. The TV was dated. It was an OK experience but sadly not the best - the staff and their kindness made up for it.
I liked the traditional style of the building. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a good spread. The beds were comfortable

SwitzerlandThe room was on the smaller side for the price, which was a little bit annoying having one large suitcase and a bag per person.
The hotel was furnished in the old style but in good condition. We arrived quite late (around 10pm) but still were able to eat a burger at the bar. The room was comfy, clean and in good condition. The staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast had a good selection. There are plenty of parking options in front of the hotel.

AustraliaIt was very expensive, much more than I would pay in Australia. The hotel is much better for people with cars. We used public transport, so walked along the long driveway, about 8 mins, to the bus stop. Then the bus took about 30 mins to get into the city of Edinburgh. Late at night, the buses stopped so we had to uber. There is nothing around and no cafes or shops nearby. Just farmland.
The estate is beautiful, the buildings are lovely. Being a very big hotel, it was a long way from the lobby to our room, down one lift, down a corridor, up another lift, down another corridor. The room was spacious and well presented. It was very quiet at night. Breakfast buffet was fairly good, with adequate variety. Staff were all lovely and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. The bath was nice too. The facilities looked good, such as pool and gym, but we never used them.

MaltaHotel is very busy. In the room you can hear everything from all other rooms, talking, literaly each world, snoring, coughing, etc.... To have breakfast is like a quest, during 10 days of our stay we did not wait in the que once when we came for breakfast at 7 am, otherwise during all other 10 days when we came at 8 am we had to que for 20-40 mins, then 20 mins time to wait for eggs or porridge. You can not spend 1-1.5 hr for breakfast even on the holiday.
The location of the hotel is amazing, it is sourended with beautiful greenery, lake, courts, 10 mins by car from city center, 10 mins by car from airport.

FinlandThe sound isolation is almost non-existent, when in the room one hears everything going on in the corridor and next rooms, such as e.g. sneezing. Also the breakfast was extremely busy and we had to wait to get a table.
We were plesently surprised with the hotel facilities, not all of which were mentioned on the booking page. It had a lovely sunny terrace, where people could enjoy a drink outside. Also i nice little playground for little children and some board games in the hotel lobby. The swimming pool was bigger than expected. The area and garden are very well looked after.

United KingdomBreakfast! We saw the traffic light system which advised that breakfast between 7-8am would be quiet. Unfortunately when we got to the Pentland at 7.45am it was queued out the door. It was quite chaotic. The staff seemed run off their feet as there were lots of tables waiting to be cleared. I had to ask someone to get our coffee and to order off the breakfast menu. There was no orange juice. Not sure if we were just unlucky and caught the hotel on a bad day!
Loved the location and setting of the hotel. The receptionist that checked us in was super lovely and very helpful. We had a lovely meal in the brasserie and enjoyed some drinks in the James Braid bar.

United KingdomWhilst the breakfast selection was brilliant on the first day we find the pastries were a little dry. However the second day we tried the mini chocolate twists and they were much better. There was a funny sewerage like type smell in the far back room which put an early end to our second day breakfast as it was quite a strong smell and put us off our food. We didn’t get a chance to mention this on checkout.
We loved the hotel and all the history behind it, the breakfast selection was great and we had dinner in the brasserie on the first evening, the kids menu was brilliant for our 2 year old and we loved our dalmahoy burgers.
