Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdombreakfast could have been improved. It was OK but nothing special and was hoping for eg haddock or kippers in the morning etc we played golf while visiting but had to go to a nearby golf club as a bit too expensive for us at the hotel - we perhaps need to look at golf inclusive deals next time
very friendly and helpful without being intrusive staff. Even the young lad waiters who seemed relatively new had a lovely open friendly and polite manner. room very comfortable and everything as required. Spa was lovely and didn't know there was a squash - great to see and will definitely use next time. bar area pleasant to relax in and surroundings very beautiful (we hit lucky with the sunshine too).

United KingdomIn the room, we couldn't open a window. The wardrobe area was a bit dark and awkward to use. More actual working drawers would have been helpful. The food was good overall and we ate in the hotel but a it was bit limited. We ate in the Seal room/bar on account of the dog - nobody told us we could order from the Rabbit room menu and eat it in the bar till our last night. That could be made clearer. Breakfast was fine and I expect you've hugely reduced food wastage, but I expected better. The dishes reminded me of Japan where the same presentation of each plate is important. I think Scottish produce could be increased. Overuse of sourdough and peashoots!
The room was beautiful with a superb view. Very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly yet professional - a good balance between friendly and fun, and competent. My daughter and I had a small dog with us and it was very well catered for except at breakfast. Good range of amenities available, however, I didn't notice any cards or board games. Maybe one more public room for such activities or just reading - no food or drinks in it?

United KingdomOnly having to move on our 2nd day.
Received a very warm welcome checking in to hotel. All staff were extremely nice and helpful. Comfortable beds and lovely breakfast. We encountered a wee problem with our toilet but apparently there is a problem with these cisterns in the top part of hotel. Possibly expect this in an old hotel. We were moved to another room no bother. Maybe worth putting sign in bathroom to explain.

We were upgraded to a suite because it was our Diamond Wedding Anniversary. My daughter had already paid for a high-spec room but we appreciated the gesture. There was also 2 small chilled bottles of prosecco in our room which was very kind. The hotel decorated the room with balloons and chocolates which my daughter had provided

United KingdomToilet handle was not working properly, bathtub panel was a little detached. Non existent view, we were looking at some bins and internal roofing. Only one bath robe and slipper was provided (we were 2) and I had to use a regular towel to move from room to the swimming pool. Toiletries were good but don’t appreciate much the single use. So much waste. During the night the room was so warm that we had to sleep with the window open. At breakfast not much choice was provided for my gluten and lactose intolerant partner, just a couple of slices of gluten free bread . They have non dairy milk options but not lactose free milk. Overall nothing too dramatic.
Room was nice and cosy, not much space to move around comfortably and were signs of wear and tear. Bathroom was a good size. Toiletries provided smelled good. Appreciated the coffee machine in the room but mostly of the coffee pods were decaf. Bar and restaurant are cosy and warm, food is delicious. All the staff were nice and polite, made us feel very welcome. We had a massage at the Spa and free access to swimming pool/spa pool/sauna/gym.

United KingdomAppreciate it is summer however our room was very hot during our stay. Opening the window did not allow for sufficient cold air to come in , I think because of the location of the room in comparison to the wind (room 111). (Next point is maybe something to consider for light sleepers!) We were also disturbed quite a bit at night (from 11-1:30am) because of the noise from the kitchen. I believe we were right above the kitchen. A lot of banging and talking kept us up for quite some time resulting in a poor sleep. We are quite light sleepers and I wish we had been given a heads up that we would be situated above the kitchen and would expect noise. Appreciate we should have mentioned this prior but it’s just something we weren’t expecting. There was also a wedding on at the hotel with guests coming and going down the halls but we know that was expected - kitchen was a separate matter.
The staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. Room was very clean and food at during dinner and breakfast were amazing! I really couldn’t fault much about the hotel apart from a couple of tiny things that will probably not effect a lot of people.
