Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdomkate was a very welcoming host, with local knowledge and advice. Breakfast was exceptional, we took the option of a prepared cold platter upon arrival - good value for money. Would definately stay here again if revisting the area. Liked the daily bake that was offered to guests (very tasty) and a nice treat for guests.

United KingdomExtremely picky, but whilst we were pre-warned about the shower on arrival, it wasn't really up to the job. TV was tiny, but we didn't go to the Lakes to watch telly.
This beautiful guest house totally exceeded our expectations! We loved absolutely everything about it. Kate has thought about even the tiniest of details, such as cotton buds, ear plugs to much bigger treats like fresh daily home baked cakes for all guests; I have to say, we couldn't wait to get back each day to see what was on offer :) We loved it, breakfast was amazing and lots on offer, staff were fantastic, location was great. Would we go back here again ... ABSOLUTELY!!!

United KingdomThere is nothing to improve. The only slight niggle was that we struggled to get a good temperature on the shower. It was either very hot or cold. Kate is aware of the issue and whilst sympathetic, because of the plumbing system was unable to rectify . This may not be the case in all rooms and when we go again we will see if we are able to get a room on the first floor.
The location is perfect. Easy to get around by bus or car. We stayed here last year and loved it then . Perfect host- generous lovely breakfasts. Extremely dog friendly. Cake in the afternoon. Close to a couple of nice pubs for evening meals.

United KingdomKate and Ann run a tight ship here - it is absolutely immaculate. I had a very comfortable spacious room with beautiful views. The whole premises is spotless and, whilst the guest house is very dog friendly, you really wouldn't know it in terms of cleanliness. Maple Bank really does live up to it's 10/10 status. All those little touches eg great towels, super toiletries and probably the best breakfasts in the UK. The hosts know the area really well and are full of great tips and ideas about places to visit, depending on your preferences. All in all I had a fabulous stay - in fact it was so lovely I stayed an extra day.

From the warm welcome to the time we left, Kate and the whole team could not do enough for us. Great service and excellent breakfasts during the full stay. Home made cakes and tea available for residents every afternoon. Excellent facilties for hikers, tourists and dog owners. Room was clean and comfortable with a mountain view. Surpringly very little noise from the adjacent A66 with the windows open. No noise at all with windows closed. 2 minute walk from the property to the bus stop to Keswick, etc. 10 minute walk into Braithwaite fir access to local shop, pubs, etc. Easy to find from A66. Ample free parking at the property.

Just returned home from a wonderful weekend, when we arrived on Friday we were met by Kate who is lovely and so helpful. At this b n b they have gone above and beyond, it is spotlessly clean the rooms are large and have everything. That you need, all your toiletries are provided for you there is literally nothing that has been forgotton. (even down to ear plugs) the breakfast choices were great and cooked to perfection every morning. Laminated maps are provided to guests to help with ideas of where to walk which was so helpful and every day cakes were made and left in the dining room to help yourself just what was needed after a nice long walk. The village is 5/10 mins maximum walk where there are 4/5 places to eat and 3 pubs. There is also a bus stop a couple of mins away where you can easily access Keswick or cockermouth, I have stayed in many b n b's over the years but this one I have to say is certainly one of the very best. My self and my husband will definitely return
