Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI was out back in the “cottage” which was a very small space tacked on to the outside of the house. Wi-Fi was super spotty (once I got the correct password), and I could hardly fit in the space with my luggage. It is also bell-ringing practice every Thursday night from 7:30-9PM at the church across the road. I was lucky (?) to be there on an intermediate night but beware beginner Thursdays!
There was small but well-appointed kitchenette.

SpainThe whole building despite being very clean, and there being non smoking signs all over the building, it had a terrible smell of cigarette.
The location was very good. We had lovely rooms with nice natural light and very clean. Very close to the city centre and the park.

United StatesInadequate hot water. When I initially tried to take a shower in late afternoon, no hot water was available. When I called owner, he only told me to let it run longer ( I had given it ten minutes before calling). Later, I was told someone “must have used it all up taking a bath.”. after supper, water was still only lukewarm, although when tested about 9 pm, it was finally hot. For £155, reliable hot water is expected.
excellent location overlooking river Ness and half mile to train station

United StatesThere was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. We opened the windows at night so it was tolerable in the rooms.
Host was very friendly and offered great recommendations for food and sightseeing. The location was excellent to allow for walking around the city or nearby wooded area.

United StatesThe history and location of this guesthouse are unbeatable. Amazing point to venture out from for exploring Inverness. Fiona was a marvelous host and very flexible with our late flight in and arrival time. Room decor was dated, but that was kind of the point lol. Very comfortable and great breakfast on top of it all.

United KingdomThe house smelled strongly of cigarettes and the odour pervaded my bedroom, making my clothes smell. Smokers may not have minded but it was irritating to me.
The proprietess was very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was comfortable and well equipped and the location was within walking distance of the town centre, rail station and other amenities. The continental breakfast had plenty of choices.

United KingdomThe whole place smelled of stale cigarettes to the extent it was nauseous. I think the owner/manager chain smoked in her little office and the smell permeated the whole building.
No breakfast included.

United KingdomThe house has a very strong stale cigarette smell. It is overwhelming. I was pleased to be in the cottage but the towels also smell like that. It felt horrible drying my hair. I can see lots of older reviews that mention it so it is clearly known about and the owners have chosen not to act on this.

United Arab EmiratesWorst place I've ever stayed. It smells very bad. Wifi doesn't work. The bed is uncomfortable. The room itself is small and creepy. Even the location is not that great (as people write here) - everything is walking distance in Inverness so it is not worth it.

United KingdomThe whole place stinks of stale cigarette smoke , as the owners clearly smoke heavily. There are fag butts all around the entrance to “the cottage “ a tiny bed sit. In the main house the smoke is acrid and thick. It is clear by the yellow blinds on the owners quarters that is emanates from the there. The no smoking signs are stained yellow. The owner insisted on payment on arrival. I am not surprised, as no one would pay that much once they had seen the rooms. The owner then accidentally tried to charge an extra £40 impatiently hurrying us to pay… clearly her normal con. You should not support this hotel.. it undermines all of your reviews and business It is a terrible hotel in a great location
The location is the only good thing

It was lovely to get a bedsit style place, equipped with small but adequate bathroom and a teeny kitchenette as well as small bedroom. Price for two nights was reasonable too, not extortionate as other places are throughout Inverness this time of year. I didn't notice UHT milk available on tray with kettle/tea/coffee/sugar so went round to the house to ask for milk which the hostess was more than willing to provide. She also insisted on topping the milk jug up for the following evening/morning too! Definite plus marks! Bed was comfy, shower though small was efficient.
