Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHappy with everything.
Absolutely amazing location. Very clean place. I have been in hostels before, but this one is exceeded my expectations. Friendly and helpful staff, fabulous location, room had a sink as an additional bonus. Toilets and showers very clean. Bunk beds ok, a little Squeaky but after a day of hiking we had a good sleep. We saw a deer 🦌 just out of our window 😊 I would definitely go back when on Arran. Bargain for the money we paid in comparison with other places for the family of 4 people (we had a quadruple family room with 2 bunk beds, anywhere else we would need 2 rooms). Definitely recommend this hostel to everyone who wants to save money on group bookings.

AustraliaThe ladies toilet didn’t flush consistently.
There was a blind that was broken and we couldn’t make it stay up without tying it to the sink!

United StatesSome of the common area facilities need a little TLC, but overall a really good hostel.
The private rooms are roomy, clean and quiet.. Staff is friendly and helpful. The kitchen, dining areas and lounge are all comfortable. This hostel is a good base for exploring the trails and beaches of Arran, with bus service several times a day and a ferry nearby to the Kintyre Peninsula.

United KingdomThe other residents - no boundaries - next door occupant thought it ok to come to our bedroom door, get me up and complain saying she could hear us talking in our twin room and blamed us for doors banging. At this point we'd been in bed for over an hour reading, chatting and laughing (not particularly loudly), not banging doors! It was between 10.30 - 11 and only door we'd used was our bathroom door, at the other side of the room from her room wall. Our room was at the top of the stairs so maybe she mistook the fire door at top of stairs for our door? I didn't debate it. The notice in the hostel said quiet time between 10pm and 7am and when my pal told the staff member in the morning, his comment was "quiet doesn't mean silence" so maybe the hostel could sell ear plugs?
Staff helpful and friendly. Bedroom clean and comfortable with good shower in ensuite. Kitchen/dining area well equipped and clean.

Czech RepublicWe generally stay in self contained apartments so we missed having the kettle in our room and having to go to the kitchen for tea. (But know that part of the youth hostel charm is meeting other people) we felt it was little expensive for a youth hostel but we didn’t have much choice when we booked and accommodation in Scotland is generally expensive and I don’t think we’d find anything much cheaper on Arran for a family room. Other than the sandwich place- which was amazing but no sit in- there’s not really any restaurants close by.
The youth hostel is in a fantastic location. Parking was easy. The lady on duty was lovely. It had everything you need and it was clean. It’s a great youth hostel and has everything runs well. We appreciated being able to have our dogs there too and it was nice to have outdoor seating. The sunset over the castle with two stags in front of it was the icing on the cake!

United KingdomJust make sure you get to the local Inn well before 8pm for food. Putting my order in for food at 8.01pm considering I'd been standing waiting for 5 minutes caused a bit of a stramash. Of course not the fault of the Hostel but thought people should know
Exceptional location
