Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing. The Hideaway was perfect.
Everything, a small piece of paradise tucked away in St Vigeans on the outskirts of Arbroath(Angus) Scotland 🏴 If you are wanting a peaceful getaway this is the place to go. The fridge and cupboards are well stocked for breakfast, books for reading and a tv, not that you will have it on as you sit in the beautifully kept gardens. Thanks once again to Angela.

I loved everything about the property, it was fantastic, quiet area with beautiful walks, fridge and cupboards were stocked, bed was so comfy I slept the best I had in months. Beautiful garden with outside sitting area. Angela the host was lovely and told us a bit about the area, which ways to walk couldn’t have been more helpful.

United KingdomThe room was very comfortable and everything was clean and of high quality. It was a continental breakfast with lots of options. The fridge and cupboard were well stocked with everything you would need. The outside sitting area was lovely although we did not use it and the accommodation was in a lovely setting with a range of lovely walks close by.. Angela, our host, was very welcoming and helpful.

United KingdomThis is a fantastic choice for a night or two in the Arbroath area. It’s more than just a room for the night. The accommodation is private, peaceful, cosy and has everything you’ll need. It’s like a garden room or five star bothy as it stands alone from the owner’s property. Super comfy bed, had the best night’s sleep! Lovely sitting out area too. Plenty of choice provided with continental breakfast. Able to easily walk into Arbroath along the path network from Kirkstyle Hideaway. Owner was friendly and easy to contact if we needed anything.

United Kingdomnothing, it was lovely.
Such a cute, cosy space with all the amenities you could want. Spotlessly clean and in a lovely location. The continental breakfast was very generous and provided ahead of time, meaning you could have total privacy if needed. I was in the area for a very distressing and unexpected funeral. The owner could not have been nicer and provided me with really helpful directions to the crematorium and this was very much appreciated.

United KingdomShower was lovely and big but for me being a bit disabled a hand rail and a seat would have been helpful, other than that a lovely and large shower.
Breakfast choice was fantastic i could have locked myself in for a week and not have run out of food. Choices were excellent. Electrical appliances covered all our requirements.

United KingdomNothing - it was perfect!
We loved our short break in the Hideaway! From the warm welcome on our arrival to the moment we left everything was perfect. Every detail has been thought about and we couldn't have asked for a better base to explore Arbroath and the local area. It was comfortable, clean and quiet. Angela couldn't have been a better host with great local knowledge and fantastically stocked fridge and cupboard. Would highly recommend!

United KingdomGorgeous room, with beautiful private terrace/garden. St Vigean's is a lovely quiet hamlet, with an historic old church and a small museum with a brilliant display of local Pictish stones (only open a couple of days a week, definitely worth going). About 30 minutes walk to Arbroath, 40 to the harbour. Nature walks all around. Fridge and cupboard well-stocked with anything you could want for a continental breakfast.

United KingdomThere wasn't anything we didn't like about this place.
St Vigeans is a beautiful little village of cottages. Kirkstyle Hideaway was a school building, now converted into a cosy little place to stay and enjoy the tranquility of a garden filled with trees shrubs and flowers. Gloria provides well stocked cupboards and fridge for breakfast. The patio was perfect for an evening meal (obtained from a supermarket store which was a pleasant 1-mile walk away, along a riverside), and breakfast - the weather was perfect for our stay. We were delighted we discovered this place.

United KingdomCould not fault it.
We could not have wished for a more friendly welcoming host. The accommodation was spotlessly clean with a fabulous little patio area, beautiful. We had a cupboard & fridge fully stocked with every imaginable breakfast food that would be replenished if running low. The very friendly host could not do enough for us such a lovely lady. We would not hesitate for a second to recommend this fabulous little cottage. We had a lovely stay for 6 nights Loved it. Will definitely use again.
