Our room was rather warm and with it facing out on to a busy road it was noisy with the windows open. The surroundings of the hotel aren’t too pleasant, but are as you might expect for a hotel offering the convenience of being opposite a main-line station.

Although the Crewe Arms has undoubtedly seen better days, it made for a perfectly adequate overnight stop. The staff, from the girls at reception to the cleaners, were as friendly as we have ever experienced. The breakfast was self-service and helped make for a prompt departure.

The beds were very soft and springs could be felt but the duvets and pillows were lovely and we did find them comfortable enough. Unfortunately as I was nodding off the water pipes were making a loud noise which kept me awake for about an hour (my son was thankfully sparko!!). I know it was the pipe as I tried running the tap as the sound changed but wouldn't stop. I was relieved when it finally stopped. Other than that the noise from the road and station was barely noticeable so it was a shame water pipes kept me awake.

The hotel was easy to find, parking was easy and the staff were lovely.

Couldn't ask for more for the price, room was big, clean and comfortable, with tea coffee facilties only slight issue was the radiator was stuck on, and window had to be closed due to road noise. Bathroom clean, Had a quick evening meal, again plesent for the price. There is a Tesco express, Starbucks and Greg's 2 mins walk if required. Would stay here again if needed to Hotel fine for a 1 night stop over.

Lovely (but tired) Hotel steeped in history with overdue renovations planned in Oct.24.
    • Leisure trip

Unfortunately, there were far to many remedial issues withing the rooms (although I've since been informed there are planned renovations for the rooms to start in October (2024). We had X3 twin rooms... all three had loose hot tap fittings, loose bathroom floor tiles (grout missing). One room, the bathroom door was too big for the frame (not acceptable when sharing a twin room). Noisy plumbing- you couldn't flush the toilet at night in fear of disturbing other guests! Handles came off wardrobe doors. The toilet roll holder fell off the wall and couldn't hold a roll of paper. (Room 224)... the window (on the Hinge side) didn't close the the frame seal and so, there was a constant draft (it was a cold and windy weekend) and the same window, the window recess wall panelling (painted Ply wood) was broken (snapped) exposing sharp splinters! The was water damage to the coving (to the left off the window and the sealant in the bathroom was loose or missing in places! (In my personal opinion, room 224 should have been withdrawn from rental). Most of the issues were small easyfixes which could have been remedied at very little cost (general maintenance).

What a lovely location steeped in History (Queen Victoria stayed here regularly and donated a feature fire place). The staff are really friendly and engaging and willing to go the extra mile to help you. A Lovely (recently renovated) restaurant/bar with reasonable pricing.
