Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaNothing - everything was wonderful.
We loved the location which was located in a quiet area but was a quick walk to both Windermere and Bowness. Our room was lovely and spacious and the breakfasts were amazing - lots of options which set us up very well for busy and active days. The hosts Andrew and Abigail were very helpful with suggestions for local hikes and restaurants. We would definitely return and would recommend Ivythwaite Lodge to our friends.

Booked this trip for my partners parents. They really liked the room and the amenities in the room, the area was superb for them as they were able to explore surrounding areas by foot and by car.

United KingdomCannot think of a single negative.
An absolute gem of a place! 10 minute walk into Windermere. 15/20 minute walk to Bowness. Perfectly placed and plenty of parking available, along with a small car park to the rear. We stayed for two nights in the luxury double room: full attic area; super king bed; spa bath; chairs to relax in; tea/coffee making facilities; fridge and skylight window. Homemade lemon drizzle cake waiting in the room on arrival was also a nice touch. Breakfast - AMAZING! Plenty on offer with the option to eat in the dining room or have a ‘breakfast butty’ delivered to your room. Freshly made muffins were also available to take in little paper bags for a snack which were more than welcome on our long walks. All ingredients are sorted locally which we loved! Andrew and Abigail were a pleasure and nothing seemed too much trouble. Andrew was happy to give advice on walks to go and restaurants to eat at. Would we return? Without a second thought.! 110% recommend! Thank you

It is a lovely period property, with spacious rooms and excellent the views. It is also not far from Bowness, and Windermere, which are both easily walkable from the property.

Not a bad word to say about this hotel and it's hosts! Great location, clean, and the bed was very comfy (coming from someone who usually struggles to sleep in hotels!) Andrew and Abigail were lovely, welcoming, and had great local knowledge, providing recommendations for local restaurants and walks in the area. They even put up a birthday banner and some prosecco in the room on request!

United KingdomThe only thing we didn't like was the bed. It felt uncomfortable to us and just a bit too firm. However, mattresses are a completely personal preference, the bedding and the room was absolutely lovely.
Our stay at Ivythwaite Guest House was a lovely experience. Both owners were incredibly welcoming, the accommodation was very clean, the power rain-shower was perfection (complete with the most luxurious locally sourced body lotions and soaps), and the room had all essential amenities required (including cookies). However, what stood out for me were the small details, such as the freshly baked cakes every day that you could take with you after a delicious cooked breakfast, the local walking and attraction information, friendly suggestions from the owners, and the beautiful gardens surrounding the home reminded me of The Secret Garden... Complete with a friendly little cat. A beautiful home, set within a beautiful location, close to many local walks and features. Highly recommend.

United KingdomThere was actually nothing that we didn't like about Ivythwaite Lodge
Ivythwait Lodge is ideally situated between the towns of Windamere & Bowness. Andrew & Abigail are the perfect hosts, very friendly & welcoming & nothing was to much trouble. They are very knowledgeable about the area & gave great suggestions & advise on things to do & places to visit. Ivythwaite Lodge is spotlessly clean, the room is comfortable with good hospitality tray. Extra bonus of a fridge with fresh milk, bottled water. & complimentary cake in the room on arrival. Breakfast was fantastic, good choice and locally produce use. Home baked muffins & bread was a real treat.

United KingdomIvythwaite Lodge really is a wonderful placed to stay. We booked the luxury double attic room to stay for 3 nights following our wedding. The room was spacious, and the attention to detail in terms of amenities really helped make the stay as relaxing as possible. From the mini fridge in the room, to the wine glassed provided and arm chairs offering another place to relax in the room. Abigail and Andrew were wonderful hosts; chatty and welcoming, with some very useful knowledge of local walking routes. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful. As a coeliac, it can be nerve wracking staying away somewhere and having them cook for you. However, Abigail put me at ease immediately, letting me know all the measures they have in place to ensure cross contamination is avoided. Home-made gluten free granola and home-made muffins really were wonderful touches (the muffins made the perfect mid-hike snack during our trip). All the cooked breakfast items were delicious, and it really does make a huge difference seeing that produce is home made or locally sourced wherever possible. We definitely wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Ivythwaite again – thanks so much for having us.
