Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe breakfast was a disappointment as we had to order twice . Due to staffing problems in the kitchen we had to wait half an hour before we we served the cooked breakfast. When my wife's cooked breakfast arrived it was overcooked . We would have appreciated a nominal reduction in the bill ( which was prepaid) to reflect this but this was not offered.
The location of the Hotel was very convenient as we were visiting Glyndebourne .We like the ambience and design of the Hotel . It was the fourth time we have stayed at Horsted Place.

United KingdomIn the restaurant you had to pay extra eg potatoes to go with your main. The lamb was lovely £31 but didn’t come with potatoes. I think at that price a few new potatoes with it should have been included? Just a small niggle.
Beautiful building and gardens. God breakfast.

United KingdomThere was no a la carte menu on the Sunday evening, rather we were served traditional Sunday lunch. The choice was uninspiring in great contrast to the next evening when we were offered an excellent range of dishes
The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hotel reflected the Pugin origin of the building and the furnishing and decoration echoed the Victorian period but generally were in good condition and comfortable. The a la carte menu on our second night was excellent with the lamb course particularly outstanding.

United KingdomAll great.
Fantastic location with elegant and well furnished country house hotel. We stayed in a junior suite that accommodated two adults and our two-year old well. Lovely dinner on arrival where we were attended by a charming waiter and my partner was even able to converse with him in her native Spanish.

FranceWe stayed during the week, and the hotel seemed very sparsely staffed and - though there was clearly someone competent in the kitchen - offering no sense anyone was firmly in charge. The staff we met were mostly young, and while charming, tended to be inattentive and forgetful. At dinner, having cleared away the dishes after out starter, the waitress brought the main course without first replacing the cutlery, and would no doubt have disappeared into the kitchen again had I not asked for a fork. At breakfast, I ordered toast, but after we'd finished the hot dishes, no-one cleared the table and the toast made no appearance. Eventually I set out to find the waitress (the staff tended to wander off out of sight) and order the toast again. I was a little bit surprised when one of the slices in the rack turned out to be the toasted crust - and, as the plates and cutlery were still there, to find myself having to push them aside and eat the toast among the remains of the bacon and eggs. These are all minor things and could easily be cleared up with some training and supervision, to bring the service up to the standard of the premises. Another small point: the renovation was presumably recent, but some of the bathroom fittings were already showing signs of fatigue. And the hot water pressure up under the eaves could have been better. And finally, while dogs are welcome - which is of course a good thing when you're travelling with one - the charge was the highest I've yet come across: £25. A bit steep, I thought.
The hotel occupies a handsome, brick-built Tudor revival house which like the garden is Grade II listed. It stands in extensive grounds, just off a main road. It has clearly recently undergone thorough restoration/redecoration, and the interiors, while retaining period features (the house was owner-occupied until the 80s), are bright and fresh and thankfully free of bling. The bedding is excellent and our rooms at the top of the house were spacious and comfortable. Dinner in the equally spacious restaurant, with views over the grounds, was also very good - a welcome change from the ubiquitous fish-and-chips and pie of the week you meet when travelling across England, and no more expensive than at the pub-type hotel we stayed at the previous night. Breakfast was also fairly good.

United KingdomAs above. Dinner a let down and wine tariff outrageous
Staff absolutely amazing all of them. Dinner wasn’t up to the cost or the two rosettes on the two days we dined. Wine prices were outrageous. A multiple of three or four on cost I can accept but this was unfair

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn’t like.
Breakfast was delicious. A good choice of wholesome dishes, beautifully cooked and served to order. The staff were excellent, well trained and friendly. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a superb room. The gardens and the house are all kept very nicely and they appear to have had a lot of recent decorations carried out and chairs were being taken for recovering. A pianist played on both evenings whilst we had dinner - another bonus for us.
