Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

NetherlandsSome points for improvement: 1) No salt and pepper were provided in the kitchen. 2) We had a view of the backyard, but it didn't look well-maintained and someone had decided to store their trashbags there, which is a good way to attract vermin. If the garden is yours, perhaps put down a container to store trash in? Note that some of the rooms are quite dark, so we decided to spend most of our time outside.
Cheap accommodation in a good location. The host was responsive and information to enter the building was provided on the check-in date.

United KingdomThe cleanliness wasn’t amazing, the windows I don’t think had ever been cleaned. Dust by the sides of beds. Also, the lock on the door to the actual room was not bolted properly, which lead to being able to twist around.
Property was in good location for what we were there for. Perfect for two adults and two young kids. I loved how I was able to leave my suitcase earlier than the check in time- that was super helpful.

United KingdomYou can't flush toilet paper and on arrival the bin was full with previous guests toilet paper. The shower overflowed. The noise is unbearable, I mean really unbearable. I had noise cancelling head phones on and still couldn't sleep. In the split seconds of quiet between non stop traffic on the road, the fridge would make noise. I ended up leaving the hotel half way through my stay and requesting a refund. I was denied it.

United KingdomKitchen facilities were poor. Hob didn't work, failed to reach optimal heat and I was unable to cook food I had bought. Staff were unable to repair or find alternative in timeframe. Kettle and microwave did not have a suitable plug socket to connect to and had to be placed on floor near a socket for use. No bedside lamp. Curtains were sheer, translucent material, no blackout. Had to buy sleep mask. Poor value for money given issues. I had a basement flat, which was not represented in advertised property photos.
Good location, clean and tidy room, good host contact and accessibility.

United KingdomThe host didn’t know how to turn on the heating unfortunately it was cold at the time. My first night I was cold all night didn’t sleep well. Having said that the host got it fixed on second day which made my stay comfortable.
