Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunately we found the mattress to be very hard for us, but we do like a soft bed. The shower took quite some time to get the water hot and they have a step mid way across the bathroom which you have to remember is there. The only other thing which would be very useful to have, would be instructions for the coffee maker - a lovely touch to have in your room, but frustrating if its different to the one you are used to.
Herriots is a lovely hotel with a family run atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar area and restaurant very nice, clean and had a lovely ambience. We had a room in the older part of the house; the hotel is an big old house with an additional newer area built on behind. The room was very large with beautiful old fashioned furniture in keeping with the hotel and a four poster bed. The bathroom had a deep modern tub with shower above and look very smart and luxurious. We didn't eat dinner there, but breakfast was really good, with a nice selection of cereals, jams, and croissants in the help yourself continental area and the cooked breakfast was amazing with great quality food and well presented.

United KingdomThe bar area perhaps a bit more colourful
Single rooms are usually notoriously small and cramped, this was not. Loved the balcony overlooking the canal. Felt valued as a solo traveller. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, very important for a sole traveller. Food was excellent. Location for the station and village, excellent.

United KingdomNo lift so carrying suitcase up three flights was a bit strenuous - especially after my heart operation! Toilet was falling off the wall so it was a bit precarious. Was reported when we left so hopefully fixed by now
We had afternoon tea with Prosecco - it was really enjoyable and not rushed. Location is excellent - just a short walk into town. In fact it is just opposite the station so very handy for travel. Car park gets busy so get there early! Breakfast was good - plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Evening meal was good too - good choice and excellent service.

United KingdomOur room was just across a small court yard from the function room, which had a function on every night and as the weather was nice alot of people were outside and you could clearly hear the music which was disturbing late in the evening.
It was close to town which was just a walk along the canal. The hotel from the outside looked well presented and inside was clean and the staff were friendly

United KingdomThe room was a little too warm for my liking even with the radiator turned off. The windows could be easily opened though. Leaving them open all day did reduce the temperature to comfortable levels for sleeping. One quite serious annoyance was a clicking noise made by some invisible heating pipes somewhere close to the room. In spite of both the room radiator and corridor radiators being turned off this clicking, which was certainly audible, occurred for say two minute intervals, periodically, all through the night.
The location, in sight of the train station, only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the town-centre and very close to a large Morrisons was excellent. The breakfast was varied, although did not include the option of porridge. The en suite bathroom was nice, especially the easily controlled hot shower with more than adequate water-pressure.

United KingdomThe room allocated to us clearly should have been a single not double. It had tiny single wardrobe and no space in the room or bathroom to put anything. We asked to be moved and were delighted with our larger room. The wedding took over the brand restaurant but we enjoyed going out instead.
Staff were very helpful especially Rita who went out of her way to find us a quieter table in the restaurant and gave us helpful advice when looking for a nice place for a meal in town. She looked out for us.

United KingdomPiped music in main areas fine, allowed conversation, but the underlying base could be heard in our bedroom. Surely music without base could be found. This would keep everyone happy. Extractor fan running all night from we think the kitchen area.
Great location for the centre of Skipton. Cosy hotel with nice bar and resturant area. Good size car park

United KingdomThere were a few aspects that detracted from my experience. Firstly, the noise from the circuit breaker panel made it difficult to sleep soundly. Additionally, the thin walls meant that I could easily hear my neighbours, which disrupted my peace and quiet. The mattress on the single bed felt quite springy and uncomfortable. Lastly, the loose door handle was a minor inconvenience. Overall, these factors made my stay less enjoyable.
My experience at the hotel was fantastic. The check-in process was smooth and hassle-free, and the receptionists were incredibly friendly. I loved the views of the canal from the rear of the hotel - it added such a lovely touch to the stay. Parking was convenient, and being close to town made exploring easy. The room was well-equipped with complimentary toiletries, and the hot cooked breakfast options were delicious and satisfying. Overall, it was a delightful stay!

United KingdomWe were warned that they were a popular wedding venue but why put us in rooms above the disco when wedding guests (who were obviously at the occasion) were in quieter parts of the hotel?

United KingdomWe dined in the restaurant on the first evening and were sadly disappointed with the food served to us. The chef was a little heavy-handed with the seasoning which spoilt what could have been a lovely meal.
Lovely hotel, opposite the railway station, so ideal for our needs. We booked a two-night stay. We were originally offered a beautiful room, but unfortunately, the roll-top bath in the bathroom was a no-no in terms of getting in and out of the shower safely. The staff were very accommodating and changed us to a room with a shower cubicle. Nice, clean room overlooking the canal. Excellent breakfast both mornings with a lovely selection of hot food and the standard Continental breakfast items. The staff were both friendly and helpful.

United KingdomNot enough hanging space in the wardrobe. Bathroom wasn't good didn't like the fact that to get to the toilet it was behind the door, very small bathroom, toilet didn't flush well and sink water backed up. There was definitely a problem with plumbing!!! Room 16 needs checking out. I would not stay again unless other rooms were bigger Nd much better.
Very convenient for town centre.
