Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaBeing in such a central location can cause some noise at night but it is to be expected.
This location was the best. Very short walk to all the places you want to go including a 5 minute walk to the amazing National museum of Scotland.

GreeceJust a small think. There is no light in the hallway. Between the bathroom and the bedroom. In addition, the shower door wasn't closing properly and there was water on the floor after taking a shower. But this is easy to fix. Apart from that, 10/10!
It was the first time to stay in the Greyfriars. Amazing location. There is no better location to stay in Edinburgh I think. We were really lucky to book it. The room was super clean and tidy. When we entered the apartment we expected to be really noisy during the night because it is literally on the central square of the old town. However it was good. We didn't have any problems sleeping at night.

United KingdomThe street noise is the only downside if you are a light sleeper. Only between the hours of midnight to 2am, after that it dies down.
Lovely studio design, had everything we needed. Appreciated the snacks that the hosts left for us. Clear communication.

SingaporeThere is nothing I could think of not to like. The apartment and location itself it perfect.
We booked for 6 days, 5 nights, stay in this studio apartment, and we love it so much!! Studio apartment We love how this apartment came with a little kitchen that we use quite often. The toilet is quite huge and it's clean too. Host also provided us with towels and other necessities for our stay. It was also beautifully decorated, I love how this apartment is located on the ground floor, I do enjoy looking at the people as they walked by the apartment. So it wasn't a problem for us. Location The location was so perfect that you could just walk about a minute, and you would reach Victoria Street, where the famous Harry Potter store is at. Edinburgh castle was just less than 10 minutes walk from the studio. You can even walk to the museum too, which also takes just about 10 minutes. Restaurant & stores There are plenty of convenient store/mini supermarkets and restaurants in the area itself. There are even a few souvenirs stores too! There's also a halal restaurant just down the street overlooking the Edinburgh castle. You'll be spoilt for choices. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our stay! I would love to stay here again when we make a trip back to Edinburgh in the future. It was a beautiful stay and trip for us.

New ZealandExcellent location. Easy access to central edinburgh and the castle. Ground level so great if you have big bags. Just to note, this location is central in a busy city, and with that comes some street noise as to be expected. This accommodation is great for couples or solo travelers.

United KingdomNoise levels from the street and inner building are a major problem. Some facilities listed weren't actually available (Coffee house on-site & SatelliteTV Channels). Both a frustration/disappointment rather than an issue.
Superb location in the City and accommodation was beautiful, stylish and very comfortable. Located in the Old part of town this base is perfectly positioned to explore the very best that Edinburgh has to offer. Loved it - thanks.

United KingdomThe only small note for the owners is I think the bathroom fan needs checking.
It was well equipped, very clean and in a central location. The hosts have thought of everything one might need. We also thought that despite some of the reviews mentioning street noise, it was incredibly well sound-proofed from the street and we slept really well. Yes there is some noise but isn’t that the pay-off for staying somewhere so central? Lovely comfy bed.

AustraliaThe washing machine/dryer needs to come with a manual for those who don't have this style of machine. The main light didn't work. Check out was 10am, however as we were walking out at 9.30am. someone was coming through the entryway and asked for the keys as I was putting them back into the keysafe. I asked if they owned the property and they said they did so I gave them the keys as we had a cab to catch. This person could have been anyone; they really needed to come after checkout time as I was concerned for a time that I gave the keys to a burglar and the owners were going to blame me for any damage caused
What a gorgeous little apartment!!! Greyfriars was perfect for our needs and so close to Edinburgh Old Town. There is a convenience store across the road for items with plenty of pubs and cafes nearby. You can see Edinburgh Castle from the footpath outside and windows are double glazed to block out the majority of noise and earplugs are available. Welcome basket on arrival was very welcome and room comes with all the modern conveniences. Thank you!
