Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaLove the decor! Everything about this guesthouse is lovingly thought out, from the nice products in the bathrooms to the record players in each room. My favorite things were: the pantry, the bathtub, breakfast at pearly cow, the location to all sights, and last, but definitely not least - the fabulous staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful, they couldn't have been better. We also had lovely massage and facial spa services, thanks to Neola, for the special treatment. Would definitely recommend this place, and would definitely stay again next time we come to York.

United KingdomJust a tiny thing, we asked for a late checkout but the message wasn't conveyed as we got a call to our room enquiring why we hadn't checked out yet. The receptionist was apologetic.
Your property is a true gem! Myself and Mum really enjoyed our stay for my birthday. All the little details like having a record player in the room and a radio playing chill music when you enter. And the coffee machine is in a doll's house!! What a lovely touch!!The complimentary pantry is such a wonderful feature! Stocked full of posh crisps and ice cream, pick n mix, brownies and fruit for the healthy!😂 The decor is unique, I particularly loved the violins and cellos that adorn the spiral staircase, you feel like you're stepping into another world as soon as you cross the threshold. With two gorgeous, uniquely designed lounges to relax in, bar and restaurant you have everything you need. The breakfast was exceptional and service was superb! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we'll be back!

United KingdomNothing not to like. As feedback though please get some decent ironing boards they are awful might as well have done it on floor. The bedroom windows in room 10 could do with opening a few more inches.
Gorgeous victorian themed hotel. Stayed 4 nights to celebrate my 50th and wanted somewhere special that was dog friendly. Just me and the dog. The whole trip was one of the best I have been on but the hotel just added to that. Staff were very friendly and loved Oscar who had all the guests enamered with him also as he's just happy to sit quietly and relax. Room I wouldn't quite say is to my taste, but lovely big and comfortable 4 poster and large room. I was at the back so very quiet at night also. Loved the free pantry in the corridor lots of snacks and drinks. Had two nights in the pearly cow. Pan fried chicken 1st night was gorgeous came on a bed of peas with pancetta and sauce. I don't like peas much but ate the whole lot it was so tasty as was the chicken and normally chicken is quite bland. Fillet steak second time and best steak had in long time. First night was allowed dog in main area as wasn't busy. Second time was in lounge but others had dogs as well so wasn't in there alone. Dogs allowed in main restaurant for breakfast which again was lovely food. Nice relaxing bar area with its quirky train that runs round the room, and also lounge as mentioned with good cocktails and recommend the pino-noir.. Very close to centre so short stroll to other restaurants etc. Walk out the back of hotel and again its a short stroll to river walks where you can walk miles. Didn't use the spa area but looked very nice. Would I stay there again? Without a doubt.

United StatesOur room was located off of the restaurant, which wasn't ideal for noise (it was a bank holiday weekend, so I believe they were quite full). But most of the time it wasn't an issue. The automatic light sensor near the mini bar was a bit overly sensitive.
The building is beautiful — both exterior and interior. Location is perfect (close to the sights + easy to get to the station, but not too noisy or touristy) Staff was friendly. Restaurant was good. Nice pantry concept where you could get snacks (sadly, the door on the freezer had been left slightly open so ice creams were melted). It seemed like there was good air conditioning, which wasn't that big of a deal for us but could be great during a hot summer day. Brompton's that guests could borrow were fun to use, but regular bikes might have been slightly better (given the condition of the roads around York).

Staff were friendly. The room was very comfortable with a lovely bath and four poster bed. There was a pantry where you could have a cooldrink, ice cream or a treat. Very close to York, about a 10 min walk. We would recommend this hotel to friends and are planning on booking again.

United KingdomThe only issue we had was on our final night, when we arrived back to the room at around midnight and there was a mechanical whine coming from outside our window. Even with the window closed, this was still very much audible, and stopped me from sleeping - I had to use my earplugs to make sleep a possibility. However it was my last night there, and so I didn’t think it was worth mentioning to the staff.
Well located, just a short walk from the city centre. Gorgeous room, amazing staff. All in all a lovely experience!
