Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom had a window that looked out into an enclosed area that was full of nesting seagulls. With the window open there was a stench of seagull excreta and a horrendous noise. The entire accommodation appears very tired and needs updating.
Breakfast room has a fantastic view over the Bay and the buffet breakfast is good value.

United KingdomThere was nothing to dislike though I expect some people would say that some areas of the bedrooms are a little worn.
The grandeur of the place was fascinating as were the photos around reminding us of life at the time it was built. We were free to roam into any of the common rooms which all had lovely seating areas. Our bedroom was big, the beds comfortable and very clean. The furnishings good. I liked the old fashioned tinned fruit option at breakfast reminding me of when I was a child. We had an evening buffet meal which was reasonably priced and of okay quality. The balcony seating area is a great place to sip a glass of wine overlooking the bay and the beach. There can't be a better view of Scarborough than from The Grand Hotel!

United KingdomThe room was tiny, the bed was in a little corner and was rock hard. The pillows weren’t comfy at all. The bathroom was good, bath had jacuzzi jets in it and was clean other than the bin hadn’t been emptied from the previous people.
Liked the venue and the balcony. Views were lovely

United KingdomThe room was dated, the toilet leaked and the shower was brown and scaling. Room could do with a deep clean and a lick of paint. Sheets and bedding was clean though.
The room had a sea view which was fabulous, was located close to the lift area and the communal spaces had atmosphere and character.

United KingdomRoom extremely warm, maybe because it was an internal room with no window. Shower lacked water power.
I was a little dubious about booking to stay at The Grand after reading some of the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The check in process was simple if a little slow, staff were helpful throughout. The rooms were very clean with comfortable beds.

United KingdomThe hotel has very limited parking for the size (500+ rooms) which proved challenging with a newborn and the luggage they come with. The rooms were uncomfortably hot and humid, small fan provided but didn’t help due to the size of the room. There’s only 3 lifts which can fit a maximum of 4 people in comfortably, again this proved very challenging with a newborn and pram as we found ourselves standing around for 10-15 minutes waiting for an empty lift so we could fit the pram in. The hotel itself is in dire need of an update and renovation. The staff weren’t overly friendly and welcoming. On checking out, the woman just took my key and said “bye” - It would have been nice to of had some warmth - “Thank you, hope you enjoyed your stay” We were also somewhat disappointed that room service wasn’t an option - after my Nephew fell asleep in his crib around 19:30-20:30 we were then stuck in the room with no option to have food brought to us (We ended up getting Deliveroo and one of us went down to reception to retrieve it)
Property was in a brilliant location - close to the beach. The rooms were large and spacious.

United KingdomNo lunchtime menu available and we weren't told where we could get tea or coffee during the evening. It was clear that the hotel was short of staff. The lifts were broken for a day and the stair routes back to the lobby from the basement levels aren't clearly marked or obvious, we kept finding random stores of plumbing parts, wardrobes or rolls of carpet.
The staff are amazing. The hotel is looking good in the lobby area and the restaurant is in the process of being refurbished. Food was excellent!!

United KingdomWe really enjoyed our room. The room was a bit warm even with fans. Like there was heating on unable to turn off. We had to make a choice. Windows open and listen to seagulls 🤣 or get warm. Had to be listening to the seagulls.
Lovely building. Room cosy and had everything we needed. Didn't use the entertainment but lovely it was there for everyone.

United KingdomThe lifts are always busy and in use but u wasn’t told where the stairs were and the hotel is massive you weren’t shown where your room would be or even explained properly was told to find the lift and go to a floor. I paid £7 for WiFi for 24 hours and after 2 hours it had gone off and I was told I would have to re-pay as the staff weren’t considerate or understanding and the room had no signal to use mobile data.
The properly was located in the perfect spot near the beach and the check in/out was very simple and quick.
