Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThere wasn’t anything that we didn’t like.
The property was well situated to be able to to easily tour the Isle of Islay. The Glenegedale House is set-up so that you can either socialize with other guests or maintain your privacy. Graeme and Emma are amazing hosts who look after all of your needs. On top of that the breakfast and the dinner served by them was by far the best food we have eaten in recent memory.

United KingdomNothing really. Can't do much about the midges in peak season, although they didn't prevent us sitting outside to enjoy the sunset. Wifi was strongest in the common area. Maybe a mesh router would give better coverage throughout. There was an issue with the evening meal booking which meant an unplanned visit to a neighbouring village, but the host sorted that out on our behalf. The "Value" rating is more a reflection of the last minute nature of my booking (which was for work) and the algorithm of the Booking.com website which seems to exploit overall supply vs demand on the island. This is out of the control of the host however.
Breakfast was really great, welcome was also great. Overall, really nice. Beds were super comfortable. Location great, but would advise to guarantee an evening meal, as it's quite a treck to the nearest town. Common areas encourage mingling with fellow guests in a relaxing manner.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing
This is the best B&B we have stayed in by far from the moment we arrived, we we're blown away by the high quality decor throughout this gorgeous property. It felt like we were in a hotel but had that lovely warmth flowing through, Emma and Graeme were beyond superb with their hospitality. The day started with the most amazing breakfast (warning you are going to need to join a gym when you get home) lovely baked muffins every morning and the best porridge I've ever tasted. The evening meals are of a high quality that you would get from a Michelin star restaurant with the most amazing wines and of course whiskeys. We will return without any doubt the next time we are visiting this lovely island.

United KingdomNothing at all!
Our hosts Emma and Graeme made us feel very welcome. The breakfast is a feast in itself! Three courses of locally sourced products cooked to perfection. There’s even the option for a tot of single malt on your porridge! The place is spotlessly clean and extremely well decorated, residents have the full run of the downstairs where they can relax in the comfy sofas and enjoy a G&T from the amazing selection of Scottish gins. They also provide evening meals and will happily cater for any special dietary requirements provided you let them know in advance. If you choose to eat out, there are good restaurants in Bowmore, the cleverly named Peatzeria and, in Port Ellen, the Sea Salt Bistro and the Islay Hotel. A visit to one or more of the distilleries on Islay is a must as is a trip to Jura and the wonderful Lussa gin distillery at the far end of the island. Would we stay there again. Absolutely…

United KingdomGlenegedale House is so pretty (inside and out), but what made our stay was the warmth of Emma and Graeme. They always make the time to chat and give you advice about the island, and their cooking is sensational. After each busy day, we felt like we were coming home, rather than to a hotel, and curling up on the sofa with g&t and a book was perfect. I honestly can't recommend Glenegedale House highly enough and was so sad to leave.

United KingdomThe rooms seemed a tad small for the price and we would have loved a bath after our long cycle around the island. It's opposite the airport which luckily wasn't a problem at all as the flights are rare and small aircraft.
The public areas were so stylish and comfortable. It had a country house feeling and the owners were excellent hosts. The food was sensational and the dining area was very gracious with beautiful crockery and crystal. Their range of gins was fun to test and the whisky with porridge at breakfast was revelationary!

United KingdomExceptional hosts - so friendly and helpful with hints & tips for exploring to make the most of our stay. Beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and extremely comfortable (& quiet) rooms & communal areas. Communal areas are thoughtfully designed so you can choose to be social with other guests or seek some calm after a day of exploring. Fabulous food - we thought the best on the Island - had breakfast and dinner throughout the week, with a nice variety and there with a great drinks menu to pair with it. Great location for exploring Islay, as a mile away (car or foot) from a gorgeous beach (The Big Strand) and also in the middle of Islay so easy driving accessibility everywhere on the island. Would highly recommend, made our trip to Islay extra special and looking forward to repeat visits.
