Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA little bit of trouble contacting a member of staff. The lock on the guest room door was temperamental (room 15).
Central location, secure parking, everything provided (towels, tea, coffee, tv, clean sheets). The staff were very friendly and helpful.

United KingdomCouldn't find any staff in the morning. Needs completely redecorating.
This hotel has seen better days. It is very tired and has no facilities. The lady who checked me in was very helpful, even allowing me to park in their private garage. Other than that there is no parking. The room was not large but was adequate. Bed a bit lumpy.

United KingdomStayed at The Gainsborough Hotel on our latest trip to see the Trent Bore (which was a bit of a let down this time ! ) and the hotel's location is very convenient for that and for the centre of Gainsborough.. We like historic buildings and this hotel is Grade 2 listed, the owners appear to have recently taken it over and are slowly renovating it. First impressions could be better and were rather misleading because our en-suite room was fine : clean and warm with a recently refurbished bathroom. The breakfast was freshly prepared, no luke luke warm buffet fare here. The parking was under cover, secure and free. We would stay there again.

United KingdomIt was a budget purchase so I expected little more than I got
I thought the hotel did exactly what it said on the tin. It was a budget purchase and it delivered a budget product: no complaints at this end. I got what I expected and, in truth, £40 with breakfast and a smiling host was bang on!

United KingdomIt was very warm on arrival that I turned the heater off. But over night its cold and the covers are thin. Luckily I packed my down sleeping bag in prep in case our van broke down! Coffee machine was broken so my partner was a bit grumpy about that and he doesn't do coffee flavoured drinks. To be honest, if we didn't stay in this hotel, then we would be sleeping in a sports hall with 100 friends snoring by indoor camping. So I'm not all that fussed apart from travel inconvenience to get to the hotel in the first place after a late night. Don't rely on Taxi's! Only just got an Uber!
The one staff member we saw was lovely. She was very kind but her English is limited so be aware of this. We only needed a practical place to stay as we were working. We stayed grubby and did not try the shower but the toilet and taps in the sink worked fine! We came back one late night crashing around with carry a lot of gear and then we struggled to open our room doors and accidentally woke her up at 3am! She kindly got up in her pjs and helped us with the door that we foolishly forgotten how to use! Apologies on our part.

United KingdomCar park was full when we arrived so defeated the purpose of booking this particular hotel. No duvet or pillow cases on bedding just sheets. Dirty marks on walls and toilet brush just sat on side behind toilet and not in correct toilet brush bowl.

United KingdomThe photos on Booking.com were not representative of the hotel. There was no indication prior to arrival that the hotel was undergoing renervation and as such we were disappointed to find the accommodation was shabby and uninviting. The bedroom needed a coat of paint and the entrance way was gloomy and untidy.
The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The central location was excellent.
