We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Fa’side castle. It is definitely a unique experience to stay in a building with so much history. The location is excellent as well. It is a quick 20 min drive to the city of Edinburgh. I really enjoyed the hospitality offered by Sue and Ian. The breakfast spread in the room allowed us to start our day exploring the Scottish highlands and Edinburgh on the right note.

Spectacular place, honestly it was way nicer then I thought it was going to be. The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable about the property. A little out of town but easy to reach with a train and a little taxi ride but so calm and peaceful after the chaos that is Edinburgh.

    Absolutely nothing

Staying in an actual castle is a really amazing experience, we had use of the Great hall, upstairs bedroom and rooftop. The medieval tower has so much character, loved the spiral stairs. Owners are lovely and we really couldn't have asked for more

Due to our job we booked kind of late and as a result only got one night due to other reservations but would have liked to stay more.

You are staying in a castle that is older than your home country. While that might seem enough the warm hospitality, the hearty fire and the cozy bed made this a night one does not soon forget.

There is nothing not to like!

Faside Castle is a wonderful historic place to stay in a unique setting with the wow factor. We were located in a tower for our sole use. Excellent breakfast provided. Easy parking. Stunning views from the roof. Very hospitable hosts. Cannot recommend this property highly enough.

Not keen on stone spiral staircase, but if taken slowly were manageable for two fit people. These had to be negotiated to access Lounge, Bedroom and Roof area from which there were magnificent views all around.

Provisions for breakfast were superb and varied. Having our own lounge with an immense history was immeasurable. Hosts were excellent.

Wonderful place to stay, very atmospheric. The location was beautiful , very quiet with lovely views from the tower over Edinburgh and the coast. The owners were very friendly and helpful when needed and told use a lot about the history of the castle. Staying in the tower feels like your very own castle as it is quite self contained. The Great Hall is beautiful and very comfortable. We would certainly like to visit again.

Everything was great. The only thing to note is that there are quite a few stairs to climb up the spiral staircase.

It was a great opportunity to stay in a renovated castle, with the use of two floors & the roof top which had excellent views over Edinburgh & Blackness Bay. The 7ft bed was really comfy & basically we had everything we needed including loads of breakfast & lots of hot water for a relaxing bath after a long day. Our hosts Iain & Sue were also lovely and made us feel very welcome indeed.

    Nothing was bad.

Sue and Ian were such delightful hosts. They provided a giant breakfast for us☺️ Sue and Ian were full of knowledge about the castle. The castle is so well restored. We had a giant bed and a giant bathtub. We felt like queens for the day! She gave us a lovely tour of the castle and showed us what was done when! They have lovely outdoor cats and dogs that came up to us for snuggles. The countryside is so quiet and quaint - we slept so well. The grounds are full of beautiful flowers! I’m so grateful Sue and Ian keep this gem open to the public - it is the perfect hidden castle for anyone who loves castles as much as I do! The history goes back a long time so it was amazing to learn about!

Any restaurants are quite far, and only food available here is the breakfast. Restaurants in Tranent and Musselburgh are closing quite early, so it's better to plan any dinners in advance.

Everything! The place, atmosphere, all details, friendly hosts. Excellent gem, unknown in Edinburgh, I'm so happy I've discovered it, can't wait to go back!

    Nothing! It is totally unique.

Absolutely amazing property; historical & atmospheric but really comfortable. Whole tower to ourselves & amazing views from the battlements. Well worth the climb up the spiral staircase! Delicious & generous breakfast provisions (more than enough to take for a packed lunch) Comfortable bed & gorgeous roll top bath. Beautiful outside gardens too. The tv is small but really, who wants to watch tv in a castle? We read & played backgammon in the Great Hall in the evening & just soaked up the atmosphere. Too warm for the fire to be lit but another time. Many thanks to the extremely hospitable owners, Sue & Ian - loved the pets too! We would highly recommend to anyone wanting something a little different. The area around Musselburgh has so much to offer too.

    Absolutely nothing to fault

This isn’t a room it’s exclusive use of a full 14th century pristinely kept castle… we arrived at the gates to be greeted by sue and Ian whom couldn’t have been more pleasant or accommodating. As we entered through the impressive entrance we started the ascent of the spiral tower staircase over a reinforced glass window covering the dungeon and up to the breathtaking grand hall with open fire, unbelievable original features throughout and a museum feel which was surreally impeccably clean… this honestly needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated. The living suite is located on the next floor and is reached by continuing up the tower which comprises of a giant extremely comfortable bed, double ended roll top bath and a kitchen/breakfast section which was fully stocked with everything you need, all utensils etc and a couple of mod cons in a fully original chamber that has a cave feel to it. In addition to this living accommodation and at the top of the tower there is roof access to a fortified turretet roof terrace which has unbelievable panoramic views. Couldn’t fault this stay in the slightest and we were both blown away by the character everywhere we looked in this building and can’t wait to return. Although the hosts were on hand should we have ever need anything it was not intrusive in the slightest due to the segregation of different living accommodations 😁
